耶和華對摩西說：「你下去囑咐百姓不可闖過界線到我這裡觀看，以免很多人死亡。

主諭摩西曰、爾下戒民、毋越界近我前以窺、恐其有多人死亡、

那一天，耶和華擊殺了七十個伯·示麥人，因為他們擅自觀看約櫃裡面。民眾為此哀慟不已，

上帝說：「別再靠近，脫下你腳上的鞋子，因為你所站的地方是聖地。」

但你不能看我的臉，因為凡看見的，都不能存活。

此外，你要在山的四圍劃定界線，吩咐百姓不得上山或碰到界線，違例者死。你們不可用手觸摸違例者，要用石頭打死他或用箭射死他，牲畜也不例外。百姓要一直等到聽見角聲長鳴才可上山。」

你進入上帝的殿時要小心謹慎，近前傾聽勝過愚人獻祭，因為他們不知道自己是在作惡。

摩西想：「我要過去看這個奇異的景象，荊棘為什麼沒有被燒掉呢？」

那麼，既然我們承受的是一個不能被震動的國度，就要感恩，用虔誠和敬畏的心事奉上帝，討祂喜悅。因為我們的上帝是烈火。
