And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed; they asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold.The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth!

I gave you expensive clothing of fine linen and silk, beautifully embroidered, and sandals made of fine goatskin leather.I gave you lovely jewelry, bracelets, beautiful necklaces,a ring for your nose, earrings for your ears, and a lovely crown for your head.And so you were adorned with gold and silver. Your clothes were made of fine linen and costly fabric and were beautifully embroidered. You ate the finest foods— choice flour, honey, and olive oil— and became more beautiful than ever. You looked like a queen, and so you were!

Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.

“ Evil people may have piles of money and may store away mounds of clothing.But the righteous will wear that clothing, and the innocent will divide that money.

So Aaron said,“ Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”All the people took the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron.Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed,“ O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

The Lord brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled.

Both men and women came, all whose hearts were willing. They brought to the Lord their offerings of gold— brooches, earrings, rings from their fingers, and necklaces. They presented gold objects of every kind as a special offering to the Lord.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

So I told them,‘ Whoever has gold jewelry, take it off.’ When they brought it to me, I simply threw it into the fire— and out came this calf!”
