有蝗蟲從煙裏出來，到了地上；有權柄給了牠們，像地上的蠍子有權柄一樣。又有話吩咐牠們別傷害地上的草、或各樣青物、各樣樹木，惟獨要傷害人、那沒有上帝印記在額上的人。蝗蟲卻沒有得權柄可以殺戮他們，只要叫他們受苦痛五個月；他們的苦痛就像蠍子螫人時所引起的苦痛一樣。當那些日子、人必求死，決尋不着死；人必切願要死，死卻逃避他們。蝗蟲的形狀彷彿是馬豫備好了要出戰一樣。牠們頭上戴的像華冠、彷彿是金的；他們的臉面像人的臉面；

老年人哪，要聽這話，國中所有的居民哪，要側耳以聽！在你們的日子、或你們列祖的日子、曾有過以下這樣的事麼？要將這事向你們的子孫傳說，讓你們的子孫傳與他們的子孫，而他們的子孫又傳與另一代。剪蟲剩下的、蝗蟲喫了；蝗蟲剩下的、蝻子喫了；蝻子剩下的、螞蚱喫了。

你所有的樹木和你土地上的果實、飛蝗全要取得它。

遮滿了地面，以致人都看不到地。蝗蟲必喫那逃脫了難的餘剩物，那沒受冰雹打壞所剩下來的；牠們必喫田野間所生長的一切樹木。蝗蟲必充滿了你的宮殿、你眾臣僕的房屋、和埃及眾人的房屋：就是從你祖宗和你祖宗的祖宗住在這地的日子以來，直到今日，沒有見過這樣蟲災的。」』說了這些話，摩西就轉身、離開法老出來了。

『此地若有饑荒、瘟疫、旱風、霉爛、蝗蟲、螞蚱，若有仇敵圍困城市之地，無論甚麼災病、甚麼病痛，

在錫安吹號角哦！在我的聖山大聲吹哦！讓國中的居民都戰抖哦，因為永恆主的日子快到了，已經臨近了。一個黑暗墨黑的日子，一個密雲暗霧的日子，像烏黑鋪滿着山嶺的是一團隊蝗蟲、又大又強盛；從來沒有這樣的，以後也不會再有，直到萬代萬年。牠們前面像火燒滅着，牠們過後像火燄燒過；未到以前、地像伊甸園，過去以後、地成了荒涼曠野；唉啊，沒有一樣能逃脫了牠們的。牠們的形狀像馬的形狀；駿馬怎樣跑，牠們也怎樣奔跑。牠們在山頂蹦跳的聲音正如車輛的響聲，正如火燄焚燒碎稭的響聲，正如強盛的軍隊擺好了陣以備爭戰。在牠們面前、眾族人都翻騰難過，大家臉都失色發暗。牠們奔跑如勇士，像戰士爬上城牆；各按自己的路前進，並不偏歪路線。彼此並不擁擠，各按自己道兒前進；直向兵器闖去，並不折斷進路。牠們蹦撞着城，竄上了牆，爬進房屋，像盜賊由窗戶進去。牠們一來，地震動，天搖撼，日月昏暗，星辰收回其光輝。永恆主在他的軍隊前頭發出聲音；他的營兵極大；那執行他命令的是強盛者。永恆主的日子很大；極其可畏懼：誰能擔受得起呢？

他說一聲，蝗蟲就來，蝻子也來，不計其數；喫盡了他們地上的各樣菜蔬，吞喫了他們田間的果實。
