老年人哪！你們要聽這話。這地所有的居民啊！你們要留心聽。在你們的日子，或在你們祖先的日子，曾有這樣的事嗎？你們要把這事傳與子，子傳與孫，孫傳與後代。剪蟲剩下的，蝗蟲吃了；蝗蟲剩下的，蝻子吃了；蝻子剩下的，螞蚱吃了。

你所有的樹木和你土地的出產，都必被害蟲吃光。

蝗蟲必遮蓋地面，甚至人不能看見地；蝗蟲必吃盡那避過災難餘剩的，那沒有受冰雹擊打，剩下留給你們的；牠們也必吃盡田間給你們生長起來的一切樹木。蝗蟲必充滿了你的宮殿，你所有臣僕的房屋，和所有埃及人的房屋；這是你祖宗和你祖宗的祖宗自從在世以來，直到今日，所沒有見過的。’”摩西就轉身，離開法老出去了。

在埃及全地必有大哀號；這樣的哀號從前未曾有過，以後也必再沒有。

“如果這地有饑荒、瘟疫、旱風、霉爛、蝗蟲、螞蚱，或有仇敵把他們圍困在城裡，無論遭遇甚麼災禍，甚麼疾病，

你們要在錫安吹號，並在我的聖山發出警訊，讓國中所有的居民都戰慄，因為耶和華的日子快到，必然臨近了。那日是黑暗幽冥的日子，是密雲漆黑的日子。有一隊眾多強盛的民來到，好像晨光滿布群山；這樣的事從前沒有發生過，以後直到萬代，也不會發生。在他們前面有吞滅的火，在他們後面有燃燒的火燄；他們未到以前，大地像伊甸園，他們過去以後，大地成了荒涼的曠野，沒有一樣能逃避他們的。他們的形狀像馬的形狀，戰馬怎樣奔跑，他們也怎樣奔跑。他們在群山頂上跳躍的聲音，如戰車的響聲，又如火燄吞滅碎稭的響聲，像強盛的民擺陣預備作戰。在他們面前，萬民苦惱，人人臉紅耳赤。他們奔跑像勇士，又像戰士爬上城牆；他們各按自己的路前行，並不偏離路線。他們彼此不擁擠，各按自己的道前行；甚至他們持著兵器跌倒，也不會被剪除。他們衝入城鎮，奔上城牆，爬進房屋，像盜賊一樣從窗戶爬進去。在他們面前，大地震動，諸天搖撼，日月昏暗，星星無光。耶和華在他的軍隊前頭發出聲音；他的隊伍極大，成就他話語的，是強盛的人。耶和華的日子偉大，非常可畏，誰能忍受得住呢？

他一發命令，蝗蟲就來，蚱蜢也來，多得無法數算，吃盡了他們地上的一切植物，吃光了他們土地的出產。
