有蝗虫从烟里出来到了地上；有能力赐给它们，好像地上蝎子的能力一样。有话吩咐它们，不可伤害地上的草，和所有青翠的东西，以及所有的树木，只可伤害那些额上没有神印记的人。蝗虫没有能力杀死他们，只可使他们受痛苦五个月。他们的痛苦就像人给蝎子螫了的痛苦一样。在那些日子，人要求死，却决不得死；切愿要死，死却远离他们。蝗虫的形象，好像是预备好了要上阵的战马一样。它们头上戴的好像金冠冕，脸像人的面孔，

老年人哪！你们要听这话。这地所有的居民啊！你们要留心听。在你们的日子，或在你们祖先的日子，曾有这样的事吗？你们要把这事传与子，子传与孙，孙传与后代。剪虫剩下的，蝗虫吃了；蝗虫剩下的，蝻子吃了；蝻子剩下的，蚂蚱吃了。

你所有的树木和你土地的出产，都必被害虫吃光。

蝗虫必遮盖地面，甚至人不能看见地；蝗虫必吃尽那避过灾难余剩的，那没有受冰雹击打，剩下留给你们的；它们也必吃尽田间给你们生长起来的一切树木。蝗虫必充满了你的宫殿，你所有臣仆的房屋，和所有埃及人的房屋；这是你祖宗和你祖宗的祖宗自从在世以来，直到今日，所没有见过的。’”摩西就转身，离开法老出去了。

在埃及全地必有大哀号；这样的哀号从前未曾有过，以后也必再没有。

“如果这地有饥荒、瘟疫、旱风、霉烂、蝗虫、蚂蚱，或有仇敌把他们围困在城里，无论遭遇什么灾祸，什么疾病，

你们要在锡安吹号，并在我的圣山发出警讯，让国中所有的居民都战栗，因为耶和华的日子快到，必然临近了。那日是黑暗幽冥的日子，是密云漆黑的日子。有一队众多强盛的民来到，好像晨光满布群山；这样的事从前没有发生过，以后直到万代，也不会发生。在他们前面有吞灭的火，在他们后面有燃烧的火焰；他们未到以前，大地像伊甸园，他们过去以后，大地成了荒凉的旷野，没有一样能逃避他们的。他们的形状像马的形状，战马怎样奔跑，他们也怎样奔跑。他们在群山顶上跳跃的声音，如战车的响声，又如火焰吞灭碎秸的响声，像强盛的民摆阵预备作战。在他们面前，万民苦恼，人人脸红耳赤。他们奔跑像勇士，又像战士爬上城墙；他们各按自己的路前行，并不偏离路线。他们彼此不拥挤，各按自己的道前行；甚至他们持着兵器跌倒，也不会被剪除。他们冲入城镇，奔上城墙，爬进房屋，像盗贼一样从窗户爬进去。在他们面前，大地震动，诸天摇撼，日月昏暗，星星无光。耶和华在他的军队前头发出声音；他的队伍极大，成就他话语的，是强盛的人。耶和华的日子伟大，非常可畏，谁能忍受得住呢？

他一发命令，蝗虫就来，蚱蜢也来，多得无法数算，吃尽了他们地上的一切植物，吃光了他们土地的出产。
