有蝗虫从烟里飞出来，落到地上，有地上蝎子的能力赐给它们。它们得到命令，不得毁坏地上的青草、树木和其他植物，只伤害额上没有上帝印记的人，但不可杀死他们，只折磨他们五个月。那种折磨就像被蝎子蛰到一样。那时候，人求死，却求不到；想死，死却躲避他们。那些蝗虫好像预备出征的战马一样，头上好像戴了金冠，面孔好像人脸，

长老们啊，请听我说！地上的所有居民啊，要留心听！在你们或你们祖先的时代可曾发生过这样的事？要把这事告诉你们的子子孙孙，传到世世代代！蝗虫吃剩的，蝻子来吃；蝻子吃剩的，蚱蜢来吃；蚱蜢吃剩的，蚂蚱来吃。

“蝗虫要吃光你们的树木和地上的出产。

它们铺天盖地，要吃光冰雹过后田间所剩的，包括一切树木。你的王宫及臣仆和所有埃及人的房屋都要布满蝗虫，这是你祖祖辈辈从未见过的蝗灾。’”摩西说完，便转身离开法老。

那时整个埃及必充满悲惨的哭号声，惨况空前绝后。

“如果国中有饥荒、瘟疫、旱灾、霉病、蝗灾、虫灾，或是城邑被敌人围困，无论遭遇什么灾祸疾病，

你们要在锡安吹响号角，在我的圣山上发出警讯，地上的居民都要战抖，因为耶和华的日子将要来临，已经近了。那将是乌云密布、天昏地暗的日子。来了一支空前绝后、强盛无比的蝗虫大军，它们像曙光一样布满山头。它们的前队如火燎原，后队如熊熊烈焰。它们未到以前，大地美得像伊甸园；它们过去之后，大地变成一片荒场。地上的一切都逃不过这一场浩劫。它们的形状像马，快速奔驰如战马，在山岭上跳跃奔腾，如隆隆战车，好像烈火吞噬干草的声音，又如大军摆开阵式准备打仗。它们一来，百姓就惊慌失措，面如死灰。它们快速奔跑像勇士，攀登城墙如战士，有条不紊地前进。队伍整齐，各行其道，势如破竹，无坚不摧。它们冲向城邑，蹿上城墙，爬进房屋，如盗贼般破窗而入。所到之处，天摇地动，日月昏暗，星辰无光。耶和华向祂的军队发号施令，祂的队伍不计其数，执行祂命令的是一支劲旅。耶和华的日子伟大而可畏，谁能承受得住呢？

祂一发声，就飞来无数蝗虫和蚂蚱，吃尽他们土地上的植物，吃尽他们田间的出产。
