In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

All the Jews were very sad. They didn’t eat anything. They wept and cried. Many of them put on the rough clothing people wear when they’re sad. They were lying down in ashes. They did all these things in every territory where the king’s order and law had been sent.

And in every province, wherever the king’s command and his decree reached, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting and weeping and lamenting, and many of them lay in sackcloth and ashes.

And as news of the king’s decree reached all the provinces, there was great mourning among the Jews. They fasted, wept, and wailed, and many people lay in burlap and ashes.

There was great mourning among the Jewish people in every province where the king’s command and edict reached. They fasted, wept, and lamented, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

於是我轉向主神，禁食，披麻蒙灰，藉祈禱和懇求尋求他。

因此我說：“要轉開你們的眼，不要望著我，讓我痛哭吧！不要因我人民的毀滅，而急急安慰我。”

使人刻苦自己的日子，這樣的禁食是我揀選的嗎？難道只是叫人垂頭像一根葦子，用麻布和爐灰鋪在下面嗎？你可以稱這是禁食，為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，穿上麻布。

亞哈隨魯在位的時候，他統治從印度到古實共一百二十七省。

於是王對侍從說：‘把他的手和腳都綁起來，丟到外面的黑暗裡，在那裡必要哀哭切齒。’

“你要去，把書珊城所有的猶大人都召集起來，為我禁食三天，就是三日三夜不吃不喝；我和我的婢女也要這樣禁食。然後我就違例進去見王；我若是死，就死吧。”

使者到了掃羅住的基比亞，把這些話說給眾民聽，眾民就都放聲大哭。

他來到的時候，以利正在路旁坐在自己的椅子上觀望，因為他為神的約櫃擔憂戰慄。那人進城裡報信，全城的人就都喊叫起來。以利聽見喊叫的聲音，就問：“這喧嚷的聲音是甚麼意思呢？”那人急忙前來，向以利報告。

希西家王聽見了，就撕裂衣服，披上麻布，進了耶和華的殿。他差派管家以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和祭司中的長老，都披上麻布，去見亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞先知。他們對他說：“希西家這樣說：‘今日是急難、責罰和凌辱的日子，就像嬰孩快要出生的時候，卻沒有氣力生出來一樣。

丟進火爐，在那裡必要哀哭切齒。

正月十三日，王的書記都召了來，照著哈曼的一切吩咐，用各省的文字，各族的方言，奉亞哈隨魯王的名下旨，又用王的戒指蓋上印，頒給總督、各省的省長和各族的領袖。

把這沒有用的僕人丟在外面的黑暗裡，在那裡必要哀哭切齒。’
