他在書珊城登了國位。

當那些日子、亞哈隨魯王在書珊宮堡登了國位；

其時都於書珊、在宮坐於王位、

At that time King Xerxes reigned from his royal throne in the citadel of Susa,

我在異象中觀看，看見自己在以攔省的蘇薩城堡中；我在異象中繼續觀看，又看見自己在烏萊運河邊。

當王住進自己的宮殿，耶和華使他安定，脫離四圍一切仇敵的時候，

王對王后以斯帖說：「猶太人在蘇薩城堡中擊殺、消滅了五百人，並哈曼的十個兒子；他們在王的其餘各省中，又做了什麼呢？現在無論你請求什麼，都會賜予你；無論你還求什麼，也會被成全。」以斯帖就說：「如果王認為好，就請王允許蘇薩的猶太人明天也照著今天的法令去做，並且把哈曼的十個兒子掛在木架上。」王就下令如此做了。於是這法令在蘇薩頒布，人們把哈曼的十個兒子掛了起來。亞達月十四日，蘇薩的猶太人又聚集起來，在蘇薩擊殺了三百人，但沒有下手掠奪財物。

請王在全國各省中指派監督，讓他們把所有容貌美麗的年輕處女都招聚到蘇薩城堡的妃嬪宮，歸在掌管女人的王室太監希該手下，給她們潔身的香品。

「你當去，把所有在蘇薩中的猶太人都聚集起來，為我禁食，三天三夜不吃不喝；我和我的使女們也會如此禁食。然後我就去見王，雖然這樣不符合法令；我如果因此滅亡，就滅亡吧！」

我尼布甲尼撒在殿裡安居，在宮中興盛。

信使們被王令催促就出發，而這法令也在蘇薩城堡頒布了。那時王與哈曼坐著喝酒，蘇薩城卻陷入混亂。
