押沙龍擺設了筵席、如同王的筵席；他吩咐僮僕說：『你們看暗嫩喝酒心裏高興的時候，我對你們說：「擊殺暗嫩」，你們便殺死他，不要懼怕；這不是我吩咐你們的麼？你們只管壯膽奮勇。』

酒能使人褻慢，濃酒能使人喧嚷；凡因酒而搖搖晃晃的都沒有智慧。

往有喪事的家去，比往宴飲的家去好；因為死是一切人的終局；活人必須將這事放在心上。愁苦比喜笑好，因為由於愁容、心就好些。智慧人的心在於有喪事的家；愚頑人的心在於快樂的家。

別醉酒了（醉中有放蕩），卻要充充滿滿地滿有聖靈。以「詩篇」、頌詞、詩歌、彼此對說，用心詠讚歌頌主；

約瑟拿起食物來，從他面前分給他們，但是給便雅憫的食物、則比他們任何人的食物多五倍。他們就喝酒，和約瑟一同暢飲宴樂。

亞比該到了拿八那裏，見他在家裏擺設筵席、如同王的筵席；拿八心裏自感高興，大醉極了；小事大事亞比該全都沒有告訴他、直等到次日早晨天亮的時候。到了早晨，拿八酒醉退了，他妻子才將這些事告訴他，他的心在五內就如死去，他就像石頭一般。

尼布甲尼撒王吩咐把眾年輕人引進去的日期到了，太監長就把他們引進到王面前。王同他們談了話；見他們中間沒有一個能比得上但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅的；於是他們四人就侍立在王面前。

擺設筵席、是為喜笑；酒能使「人生」快樂；銀錢能應各事的需要。

王吩咐太監長亞施毘拿要從以色列人王家後裔、和顯達者之中、引進幾個人來，就是年輕的人，沒有任何殘疾、相貌俊美、通達各樣學問，富有知識，滿有學識、聰明，足能侍立在王宮殿的，要將迦勒底人的典籍和語言教授他們。王將王的大餐日日的分兒、和他自己喝的酒、分派給他們，將他們養大了三年；過了三年、他們好侍立在王面前。
