酒能使人狂放，烈酒能使人喧哗；所有因醉酒而犯错的，都没有智慧。

往服丧之家，比往宴乐之家还好，因为死是人人的结局，活人要把这事放在心上。忧愁胜于嬉笑，因为面带愁容，能使内心得着好处。智慧人的心在服丧之家，愚昧人的心在欢乐之家。

不要醉酒，醉酒能使人放荡乱性，却要让圣灵充满。应当用诗章、圣诗、灵歌，彼此呼应，口唱心和地赞美主。

约瑟拿起自己面前的食物，分给他们，但是便雅悯分得的食物，比别人多五倍。他们就与约瑟一同喝酒宴乐。

亚比该到了拿八那里，他正在家中摆设筵席，好像帝王的筵席一样。拿八心里畅快，喝得烂醉如泥，所以无论大事小事亚比该都没有告诉他，直到第二天早晨。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子才把这些事告诉他，他就吓得魂不附体，立刻中风瘫痪了。

到了王吩咐带所有年轻人进宫的日子，太监长就领他们到尼布甲尼撒王面前。王和他们谈话，发现他们所有的人中，没有一个比得上但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亚撒利雅的；他们四人就侍立在王面前。

设宴是为欢笑，酒能使人生快活，金钱能解决万事。

王吩咐他的太监长亚施毗拿说：“你要从以色列人中，把一些王室的后裔和贵族带进来；这些年轻人必须没有残疾、英俊、足智多才、有高度学习能力、明察事理，而且他们必须有能力可以在王宫里工作。你要教他们学习迦勒底的文学和语言。”王指定每日给他们一份御用的佳肴美酒；又教养他们三年。期满以后，他们就侍立在王面前。
