“‘ You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him.“‘ The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

But if that servant says in his heart,‘ My lord delays his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken,then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he isn’t expecting him, and in an hour that he doesn’t know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.

I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.

“ Then he said to his servants,‘ The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. You laid a very heavy yoke on the aged.

Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,Saying,‘ When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals, and sell the sweepings with the wheat?’”Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob,“ Surely I will never forget any of their works.

Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.

Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say,‘ and you don’t see? Why have we afflicted our soul, and you don’t notice?’“ Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and oppress all your laborers.Behold, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wickedness. You don’t fast today so as to make your voice to be heard on high.Is this the fast that I have chosen? A day for a man to humble his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Yahweh?“ Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

But if that evil servant should say in his heart,‘ My lord is delaying his coming,’

Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. It is also not in our power to help it, because other men have our fields and our vineyards.”

I know that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

Because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. He killed whom he wanted to, and he kept alive whom he wanted to. He raised up whom he wanted to, and he put down whom he wanted to.But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

So that they go around naked without clothing. Being hungry, they carry the sheaves.They make oil within the walls of these men. They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.From out of the populous city, men groan. The soul of the wounded cries out, yet God doesn’t regard the folly.

and will cut him in pieces, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.

Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ,not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,with good will doing service as to the Lord, and not to men,

Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god that will deliver you out of my hands?”

I said to them,“ We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found not a word to say.Also I said,“ The thing that you do is not good. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.

Whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace the same hour.”

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.In his day you shall give him his wages, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor and sets his heart on it; lest he cry against you to Yahweh, and it be sin to you.

Therefore I command you to surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.When you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty.You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, out of your threshing floor, and out of your wine press. As Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him.You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you. Therefore I command you this thing today.It shall be, if he tells you,“ I will not go out from you,” because he loves you and your house, because he is well with you,

For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

“‘ If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you, you shall not make him to serve as a slave.As a hired servant, and as a temporary resident, he shall be with you; he shall serve with you until the Year of Jubilee.Then he shall go out from you, he and his children with him, and shall return to his own family, and to the possession of his fathers.For they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. They shall not be sold as slaves.You shall not rule over him with harshness, but shall fear your God.“‘ As for your male and your female slaves, whom you may have from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.Moreover, of the children of the aliens who live among you, of them you may buy, and of their families who are with you, which they have conceived in your land; and they will be your property.You may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession. Of them you may take your slaves forever, but over your brothers the children of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness.
