我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

耶和華曰、賢者毋自其誇賢、能者毋自矜其能、富者毋自炫其富。

耶和華有旨必行、非詭謀所能撓。備騎以戰鬥、助之者惟耶和華。

未得主命、誰能言而有應兮。禍福之來、俱由至上者定之兮。

卑者升之、憂者恤之、狡者敗其謀、使事不遂、譎者巧於計、反害及身、謀愈狡者、敗愈速、惡者晝遭晦冥、雖在日中、無異昏夜、遍捫不見。

疾趨者不得避難、強勁者其力廢弛、有能者不能自救、執弓者不能禦敵、捷足者不得免禍、乘馬者不得救援、當是日壯士之中、勇敢特稱者、必裸而逃、我耶和華已言之矣。

竊思上帝鞫善惡、賞罰有其期。

則於會中言於眾、曰、約沙法王、與猶大族耶路撒冷民、宜聽我言。耶和華云、爾勿畏葸、懼斯有眾、蓋攻敵者、非爾、乃上帝也。

我知上帝所為、永立不移、無能損益、使人寅畏。

疾趨者不及逃遁、強猛者不能免難、在彼北方、百辣河濱、顛躓傾覆、

王有軍旅、不得拯救、士有勇力、不能自護兮、雖有良駒、不能避害、雖有健馬、不能援人兮、

維馬有力、人能疾趨、主不以為悅兮、敬畏耶和華、賴其仁慈者、則可見悅於主兮。

智者明目、愚人行暗、及其終也、何異之有。竊思愚者死、智者亦死、雖智何益、豈非虛哉。

我觀世人、勞而得功、同人媢嫉、此亦捕風捉影而已。

亞希多弗見所議不從則備驢反故邑、歸私第、以事囑其家人、自縊而死、葬於祖墓。

押沙龍及以色列族眾曰、亞其人戶篩之議、較亞希多弗尤善。蓋耶和華欲廢亞希多弗議、以敗押沙龍。

我復思天下之秉鈞者、虐遇民人、民罹其酷、靡不墮淚、慰藉無人。

我為君足以致此、豈他人所能及哉、我察智愚。

毋自誇詡、毋出妄言、蓋耶和華睿智之上帝、人有所行、無不裁度。英武者折其弓、荏弱者賦以力。昔果腹者今傭以得食、饑饉者反無饑、昔不妊者今產七子、育眾子者反絕其孕。可使喪命、可使得生、可使歸墓、可使復生、俱耶和華所為也。使人窮乏、使人富裕、使人卑微、使人高顯、此非耶和華所主乎。舉貧賤者於塵埃、升匱乏者於糞壤、使坐於民牧間、致得榮位、蓋大地之基屬耶和華、使宇宙立於其上。敬虔者為耶和華所範衛、無義者歸於幽暗而不動、蓋恃己力、無能得勝。耶和華使悖逆者歸於糜爛、自天降雷以擊之、耶和華必鞫地極、簡以治民者、使加能力、選以沐膏者、使角崢嶸。○

惟隨意行萬事者、預定我、因基督、得嗣業、

故彼厥志驕肆、厥心剛愎、如懸金索、如衣麗服兮、容貌肥腴、所得逾於所望兮、

當憶爾上帝耶和華以能賜爾、俾爾致富、以踐所許爾祖之盟約、即以今日所有者為證、

試思上帝經綸、彼使為曲、誰能直之。

當斯時也、義與不義之人、爾得詳辨之、事上帝與不事上帝者、爾得區別之。

主所福、誰能禍之、主所禍、誰能福之、其待人或一國、或匹夫、無二理也。

斯世之億兆、藐乎其小、有如無物、天下軍旅、地下人民、上帝隨意而作、其取之、孰能禦之、其為之、孰能詰之、

西魯雅有三子、名約押、亞庇篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑足疾如麀。追襲押尼耳、不偏於左、不偏於右。押尼耳回顧、曰、爾為亞撒黑乎。曰、是也。曰盍偏於左、盍偏於右、可執少者一人、褫其戎服。亞撒黑仍追不舍。押尼耳曰、姑舍我、毋庸追、恐我擊爾、爾若仆地、我何面目、與爾兄相見。弗聽、仍追不舍。押尼耳曳戟刺之、洞其腹、從其後出、亞撒黑殞沒、眾至其所、乃止。

如是大闢以繩發石、擊非利士人而殺之、手不持刃。
