Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.

No one knows when trouble will come to them. Fish are caught in nets. Birds are taken in traps. And people are trapped by hard times that come when they don’t expect them.

For man does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.

People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.

For certainly no one knows his time: like fish caught in a cruel net or like birds caught in a trap, so people are trapped in an evil time as it suddenly falls on them.

For indeed, a person does not know his time: like fish that are caught in a treacherous net and birds caught in a snare, so the sons of mankind are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them.

For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.

惡者犯罪、自取其戾、義者謳歌、自得其樂。

人自謂平康安固、而禍突至、猶妊婦劬勞、其人不得免、

守命無咎、哲士識時。萬事各有其時、未來者人不及料、故遘多艱。氣之呼吸不能自主、死之猝至、亦不自持、在彼疆場、不能倖免、多行強暴、終難逭罰。

自當謹慎、勿以饜飫沉湎、世之憧擾累心、恐其日突然臨爾、如機檻臨宅土之人、故宜儆醒常祈、得避將來之事、立人子前矣、○

若家主知盜何時至、則必儆醒、不致穴其室、此爾所知也、

惡不即罰、人專為惡。

維彼惡人、雨置諸險滑之途、擲諸死亡之地兮、猝然喪敗、殲滅殆盡、主勃然而興、如夢警醒、藐視其浮華兮。

爾何使我無君、若鱗族昆蟲、敵以鈎釣我、以網捕我、既得我眾、喜不自勝、獻祭焚香、以敬其網、因所得者多、食之果腹、即罄斯網、復出害人、戮民無厭、爾何聽其然乎。

如挪亞時、其人飲食、嫁娶、迨挪亞入方舟之日、洪水至而湮眾、人子之日亦然、如羅得時、其人飲食貿易、樹蓺搆造、迨羅得出所多馬之日、天雨火硫而滅眾、人子顯日亦如是、當日在屋上者、其具在室、勿下取之、在田者勿歸、

少年率爾相從、如牛犢就死地、如罪人受刑罰。如禽鳥罹網羅、迨刃入腎腸、乃知生命之亡。

故必遇災、猝然敗亡、無人援手、

電光閃兮硫火降、災飆發兮報施不爽、

曰、今猶為爾日、及是時、而知關爾平安之事、則幸、過此、隱於爾目矣、日至、敵必築壘環繞、四面困爾、夷爾及赤子、不遺石於石上、以爾不知眷顧之日也、○

上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、

爾在異邦、當善所為、異邦人素謗爾為惡、今察爾善行、迄上帝眷顧彼之日、彼自讚美上帝、

足罹網羅、行遇坎阱。機檻囚之、籠絡困之。到處皆絆、隨在維坑。

故爾罪戾必若將傾之垣、欲覆之壁、忽然毀圮、

禽獸無知、為人獲而屠、偽師如之、訕謗其所不知、必受惡報而沉淪、

上帝曰、納爾之時、吾聽爾、救爾之日、我祐爾、今乃見納之時、得救之日矣、

雖罹魔鬼之網、為其所惑、致逞厥志、亦可儆醒以得救、
