我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我又转念：见日光之下，快跑的未必能赢；力战的未必得胜；智慧的未必得粮食；明哲的未必得资财；灵巧的未必得喜悦。所临到众人的是在乎当时的机会。

我转而回顾日光之下，快跑的未必能赢，强壮的未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，聪明的未必得财富，有学问的未必得人喜悦，全在乎各人遇上的时候和机会。

我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

永恆主這麼說：智慧人不要誇耀自己的智慧，勇士不要誇耀自己的勇力，財主也不要誇耀自己的財富；

沒有智慧、沒有明達、沒有謀略能敵得過永恆主。馬儘管豫備好了、以待戰爭之日，但得勝總是在乎永恆主。

除非主命定，誰能說成就成呢？是禍是福，不都出於至高者的口麼？

他將卑微的安置於高處，將悲哀的舉到穩妥之地；他破壞狡猾人的計策，使他們的手展不出成功的謀略。他在智慧人自己的狡猾中捉住他們，使邪曲人的計謀迅速地失敗。他們白晝遇見黑暗，中午竟摸來摸去如夜間。

輕快者逃走的路都斷絕，有大力的不能運用其力，剛勇的不能搭救自己；操縱弓箭的不能站立着，腿輕快的不能逃脫，騎馬的也不能搭救自己；勇士中最有膽力的當那日也必赤身逃跑』：永恆主發神諭說。

我心裏說：義人和惡人上帝都要審判，因為各樣事務、各樣工作、他都立下定時。

他說：『猶大眾人、耶路撒冷的居民和約沙法王啊，你們請留心聽；永恆主對你們這麼說：「你們不要因這許多蜂擁軍兵而懼怕驚慌，因為爭戰不是在於你們，乃是在於上帝。

我知道上帝一切所作的都必永存，無所加添，也無所減少：上帝這樣行，是要人在他面前存着敬畏的心。

輕快的也逃跑不了，英勇的也不能逃脫；就在北方伯拉河邊都絆跌仆倒。

君王不能因軍兵多而得勝；勇士不能因力氣大而得救援；靠馬得勝是妄想；王並不能因軍兵多而蒙搭救。

他歡喜的不是馬之力大，他喜悅的不是人之腿快；永恆主喜悅的、乃是敬畏他的、仰望他的堅愛的人。

智慧人的眼在頭上看；愚頑人在黑暗裏走；我卻深知這兩種人都必遇見同一樣的遭遇。於是我心裏說：『愚頑人所遭遇的、我也會遭遇着，我為甚麼要有智慧呢？那我有甚麼長處呢？我就心裏說：這也是虛空。

我又看一切勞碌和各樣工作上的技巧都是人對鄰舍羨慕之表現：這也是虛空，也是捕風。

亞希多弗見自己的計謀不蒙採納施行，就豫備了驢，往本城自己家去；立了遺囑理家事，便上吊死了；被埋葬在他父親的墳墓裏。

押沙龍和以色列眾人都說：『亞基人戶篩的計謀比亞希多弗的計謀更好。』這是因為永恆主命定要破壞亞希多弗的好計謀，為要降災禍於押沙龍的。

我又看、日光之下所行的一切欺壓：看哪，受欺壓的流淚，無人安慰！欺壓他們的、手裏有勢力，也無人安慰！

我轉而觀看智慧、狂妄、和愚昧；啊，在王以後來的人還能作甚麼呢？也不過行早先行過的就是了。

不要誇口說高傲的話，不要口出傲慢之言，因為永恆主是無所不知的上帝，人的行為都被他衡量。勇士的弓被折斷；疲弱的人以氣力束腰。飽足的必作傭人去求食；饑餓的不再饑餓；不能生育的生了七個兒子；多有兒女的反倒衰萎。永恆主使人死，也使人活；使人下陰間，也使人上來。永恆主使人窮乏，也使人富足；使人降低，也使人升高。他抬舉了貧寒人出灰塵，提拔了窮苦人出灰堆，使他們和王子同坐，承繼榮顯的座位；地的柱子屬於永恆主；他將世界立在那上面。他必保護他堅貞之民的腳步，使惡人在黑暗中消滅死寂；因為人得勝、不是靠着勢力。永恆主必打碎他的敵人；至高者在天上必大發雷霆。永恆主必懲罰地極的人；將力量賜給他所立的王，高舉他所膏立者的角。』

在基督裏、照那按自己旨意之計畫運行萬事者的定旨所豫定的、我們也被分派、做成了上帝的業分，

因此驕傲就做了他們的脖鍊兒；強暴的外披也遮住他們。他們的罪孽因體胖而生出；他們心裏所狂想的橫流瀰漫。

但是你要記得永恆主你的上帝，記得你得資財的力量是他賜給你的；他賜給你，是要實行他向你列祖所起誓而立的約，像今日這樣。

你要察看上帝的作為：他所使彎曲的、誰能使它變直呢？

那時你們就必重新看出義人與惡人之間、事奉上帝的與不事奉上帝的之間、有甚麼分別了。

他若靜止不動，誰能嫌他不對呢？他若掩面，誰能見他呢？無論對國對人都是一樣；

地上所有的居民都算不了甚麼；在天上的萬軍、和地上的居民中、他都憑自己的意旨行事；沒有人能攔住他的手，或是問他說：「你作甚麼？」

當時洗魯雅的三個兒子、約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑、也在那裏；亞撒黑的腿輕快、如同田野的瞪羚羊一般。亞撒黑追趕押尼珥、不偏左右、一直跟着押尼珥跑。押尼珥轉過身來、問說：『亞撒黑啊，是你麼？』他回答說：『是我。』押尼珥對他說：『你或轉向右，或轉向左，抓住一個青年人，取了他被剝奪的衣裳也就夠了。』亞撒黑卻不情願轉開而不跟着他。押尼珥又再對亞撒黑說：『你轉開不跟着我吧；我何必將你擊殺到地上呢？我若殺你，怎有臉面去見你哥哥約押呢？亞撒黑仍然不肯轉開，押尼珥便用矛倒刺他的五臟，矛從他的背後透出來；亞撒黑就在那裏仆倒，當場死掉；眾人趕到亞撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。

這樣、大衛強過那非利士人、是用甩機弦和石子；大衛擊中了那非利士人、而殺死他，手中並沒有刀。
