我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

非主所命、誰能言之、而即成兮、惟禍與福、非出自至上者之口乎、

卑者置之於高處、憂者舉之於寧域、敗狡者之計、俾其所謀不得成、令智者自中其詭計、使譎者之謀早敗、若輩晝遇晦冥、午間捫搎、有如昏夜、

疾趨者不得避所、強壯者不得施力、剛勇者不能自救、執弓者不得屹立、捷足者不得脫逃、乘馬者不能自救、是日也、壯士中之勇敢者、必裸而遁、耶和華言之矣、

我心自謂、義者惡者、上帝必鞫之、蓋諸事百工、各有其時、

乃曰、猶大人眾、耶路撒冷居民、約沙法王、爾其聽之、耶和華告爾云、勿緣斯眾、畏葸恐惶、蓋此戰不在爾、乃在上帝也、

我知上帝所作、皆必永存、無能益之、亦無能損之、上帝行此、使人畏之、

毋令疾趨者遁逃、毋令有勇者得逸、在北方伯拉河濱、眾咸躓而顚、

未有君王、因兵多而得救、未有勇士、因力大而獲拯兮、賴馬獲援、乃屬徒然、其力雖大、不能救人兮、

不喜馬力、不悅人股兮、惟寅畏耶和華、仰望其慈惠者、乃其所悅兮、

智者明於目、愚者行於暗、我知其終、所遇一也、我心自謂、愚者所遭、我亦將遭之、我雖多智、有何益哉、我心自謂、斯亦虛空、

我見人因勞力、及諸巧工、為鄰所嫉、斯亦虛空、乃為捕風、

亞希多弗見其所謀不從、即備驢反故邑、歸私第、處置家事、自縊而死、葬於父墓、○

押沙龍及以色列眾曰、亞基人戶篩之謀、較亞希多弗之謀尤善、蓋耶和華預定敗亞希多弗之謀、以禍押沙龍、○

我轉觀日下所行之虐、見受虐者流涕、慰藉無人、行虐者有權、受虐者不得慰藉、

我轉觀智慧、狂妄愚蒙、後乎王而至者、將何能為、僅循所曾為者而為之耳、

勿復出言驕矜、勿容口發狂妄、蓋耶和華為睿智之上帝、人之所行、為彼所衡、勇士折其弓、躓者束以力、素飽足者為傭得食、飢餓者不復飢、不育者乃產七子、多子者反致衰弱、耶和華殺人生人、使人歸墓、使人復起、耶和華使人貧、使人富、使人卑微、使人高顯、舉貧賤者於塵埃、拔匱乏者於糞壤、使坐牧伯之間、俾嗣尊榮之位、蓋地之柱屬耶和華、立宇宙於其上、彼之聖民、必護衛其步履、使惡人緘默於幽暗、蓋恃力者、無有得勝也、與耶和華爭者、必被擊碎、彼必自天以雷擊之、耶和華將行鞫於地極、賜力於其王、高其受膏者之角、

我儕於彼亦得為業、乃依己旨行萬事者所預定、

故驕肆如鏈懸其項、暴戾如服蔽其體兮、彼體胖而目突、所得逾於心所望兮、

當憶爾上帝耶和華、因彼賜爾以力、俾得貨財、以踐所誓爾祖之約、有如今日、

當考上帝之作為、彼所曲者、孰能直之、

當斯時也、義與不義者、事上帝與不事上帝者、爾將轉而分辨之、

上帝安人、誰能罪之、上帝掩面、誰能覲之、於國於人皆然、

地上居民、悉若無有、彼於天上軍旅、地上億兆、隨意而行、無能阻其手、或詰之曰、爾何為者、
