我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

耶和華如此說：「智慧人不要因他的智慧誇口，勇士不要因他的勇力誇口，財主不要因他的財物誇口。

沒有人能以智慧、聰明、謀略敵擋耶和華。馬是為打仗之日預備的；得勝乃在乎耶和華。

除非主命定，誰能說成就成呢？禍福不都出於至高者的口嗎？

將卑微的安置在高處，將哀痛的舉到穩妥之地；破壞狡猾人的計謀，使他們所謀的不得成就。他叫有智慧的中了自己的詭計，使狡詐人的計謀速速滅亡。他們白晝遇見黑暗，午間摸索如在夜間。

快跑的不能逃脫；有力的不能用力；剛勇的也不能自救。拿弓的不能站立；腿快的不能逃脫；騎馬的也不能自救。到那日，勇士中最有膽量的，必赤身逃跑。這是耶和華說的。

我心裏說，神必審判義人和惡人；因為在那裏，各樣事務，一切工作，都有定時。

他說：「猶大眾人、耶路撒冷的居民，和約沙法王，你們請聽。耶和華對你們如此說：『不要因這大軍恐懼驚惶；因為勝敗不在乎你們，乃在乎神。

我知道神一切所做的都必永存；無所增添，無所減少。神這樣行，是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。

不要容快跑的逃避；不要容勇士逃脫；他們在北方幼發拉底河邊絆跌仆倒。

君王不能因兵多得勝；勇士不能因力大得救。靠馬得救是枉然的；馬也不能因力大救人。

他不喜悅馬的力大，不喜愛人的腿快。耶和華喜愛敬畏他和盼望他慈愛的人。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人在黑暗裏行。我卻看明有一件事，這兩等人都必遇見。我就心裏說：「愚昧人所遇見的，我也必遇見，我為何更有智慧呢？」我心裏說，這也是虛空。

我又見人為一切的勞碌和各樣靈巧的工作就被鄰舍嫉妒。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

亞希多弗見不依從他的計謀，就備上驢，歸回本城；到了家，留下遺言，便吊死了，葬在他父親的墳墓裏。

押沙龍和以色列眾人說：「亞基人戶篩的計謀比亞希多弗的計謀更好！」這是因耶和華定意破壞亞希多弗的良謀，為要降禍與押沙龍。

我又轉念，見日光之下所行的一切欺壓。看哪，受欺壓的流淚，且無人安慰；欺壓他們的有勢力，也無人安慰他們。

我轉念觀看智慧、狂妄，和愚昧。在王以後而來的人還能做甚麼呢？也不過行早先所行的就是了。

人不要誇口說驕傲的話，也不要出狂妄的言語；因耶和華是大有智識的神，人的行為被他衡量。勇士的弓都已折斷；跌倒的人以力量束腰。素來飽足的，反作用人求食；飢餓的，再不飢餓。不生育的，生了七個兒子；多有兒女的，反倒衰微。耶和華使人死，也使人活，使人下陰間，也使人往上升。他使人貧窮，也使人富足，使人卑微，也使人高貴。他從灰塵裏擡舉貧寒人，從糞堆中提拔窮乏人，使他們與王子同坐，得着榮耀的座位。地的柱子屬於耶和華；他將世界立在其上。他必保護聖民的腳步，使惡人在黑暗中寂然不動；人都不能靠力量得勝。與耶和華爭競的，必被打碎；耶和華必從天上以雷攻擊他，必審判地極的人，將力量賜與所立的王，高舉受膏者的角。

我們也在他裏面得了基業；這原是那位隨己意行、做萬事的，照着他旨意所預定的，

所以，驕傲如鏈子戴在他們的項上；強暴像衣裳遮住他們的身體。他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出；他們所得的，過於心裏所想的。

你要記念耶和華－你的神，因為得貨財的力量是他給你的，為要堅定他向你列祖起誓所立的約，像今日一樣。

你要察看神的作為；因神使為曲的，誰能變為直呢？

那時你們必歸回，將善人和惡人，事奉神的和不事奉神的，分別出來。」

他使人安靜，誰能擾亂呢？他掩面，誰能見他呢？無論待一國或一人都是如此－

世上所有的居民都算為虛無；在天上的萬軍和世上的居民中，他都憑自己的意旨行事。無人能攔住他手，或問他說，你做甚麼呢？

在那裏有洗魯雅的三個兒子：約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑腳快如野鹿一般；亞撒黑追趕押尼珥，直追趕他不偏左右。押尼珥回頭說：「你是亞撒黑嗎？」回答說：「是。」押尼珥對他說：「你或轉向左轉向右，拿住一個少年人，剝去他的戰衣。」亞撒黑卻不肯轉開不追趕他。押尼珥又對亞撒黑說：「你轉開不追趕我吧！我何必殺你呢？若殺你，有甚麼臉見你哥哥約押呢？」亞撒黑仍不肯轉開。故此，押尼珥就用槍鐏刺入他的肚腹，甚至槍從背後透出，亞撒黑就在那裏仆倒而死。眾人趕到亞撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。

這樣，大衛用機弦甩石，勝了那非利士人，打死他；大衛手中卻沒有刀。
