此皆我所見者、專心詳察日下所作諸事、見操權者、有時使人受害、

我詳觀天下事、見有陷害同儔者、

凡此我嘗見之、我專心詳觀日下所作之事、有時人轄人、致人受害、有時人轄人致人受害或作有時人轄人致自受害

All this I saw, as I applied my mind to everything done under the sun. There is a time when a man lords it over others to his own hurt.

I understood all these things. I used my mind to study everything that’s done on earth. A man sometimes makes life hard for others. But he ends up hurting himself.

All this I observed while applying my heart to all that is done under the sun, when man had power over man to his hurt.

I have thought deeply about all that goes on here under the sun, where people have the power to hurt each other.

All this I have seen, applying my mind to all the work that is done under the sun, at a time when one person has authority over another to his harm.

All this I have seen, and have applied my mind to every deed that has been done under the sun at a time when one person has exercised authority over another person to his detriment.

你若在一個地區看見窮人受欺壓，公義公平被掠奪，不要因此驚奇；有一位高過居高位的在鑒察，在他們之上還有更高的。

我見日光之下有一件令人憂傷的禍患，就是財主積存財富，反害自己。

我轉而觀看日光之下有一件虛空的事：有人孤單無雙，無子無兄弟，竟勞碌不息，眼目也不以財富為滿足。他說：「我勞碌，自己卻不享福，到底是為了誰呢？」這也是虛空，是極沉重的擔子。

有人報告埃及王說：「百姓逃跑了！」法老和他的臣僕對百姓改變了心意，說：「我們放以色列人走，不再服事我們，我們怎麼會做這種事呢？」法老就預備戰車，帶領他的軍兵同去，他帶了六百輛特選的戰車和埃及所有的戰車，每輛都有軍官。耶和華任憑埃及王法老的心剛硬，他就追趕以色列人；以色列人卻抬起頭來出去了。埃及人追趕他們，法老一切的馬匹、戰車、戰車長，與軍兵就在海邊上，靠近比‧哈希錄，在巴力‧洗分的前面，在他們安營的地方追上了。

我見日光之下所發生的一切事，看哪，全是虛空，全是捕風。

但希實本王西宏不肯讓我們從他那裏經過，因為耶和華－你的上帝使他性情頑梗，內心剛硬，為要把他交在你手中，像今日一樣。

你果然打敗了以東，就心高氣傲。你以此為榮，就待在自己家裏算了吧，為何要惹禍，使自己和猶大一同敗亡呢？」亞瑪謝卻不肯聽從。於是以色列王約阿施上來，在猶大的伯‧示麥與猶大王亞瑪謝面對面較量。猶大敗在以色列面前，他們逃跑，各人逃回自己的帳棚去了。

海水回流，淹沒了戰車和戰車長，以及那些跟着以色列人下到海中的法老全軍，連一個也沒有剩下。

他們在西底家眼前殺了他的兒女，挖了西底家的眼睛，用銅鏈鎖着他，帶到巴比倫去。

我觀看上帝給世人的擔子，使他們在其中勞苦：

我轉念，一心要知道，要考察，要尋求智慧和萬事的來由，要知道邪惡為愚昧，愚昧為狂妄。
