As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practice it.

No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation, that dark battle. And in the face of death, wickedness will certainly not rescue the wicked.

And just as it is destined for people to die once, and after this comes judgment,

The wicked is thrust down by his own wrongdoing, But the righteous has a refuge when he dies.

What man can live and not see death? Can he save his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah

For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we too are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.

The wicked will return to Sheol, All the nations who forget God.

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?No one can by any means redeem another Or give God a ransom for him—For the redemption of his soul is priceless, And he should cease imagining forever—That he might live on eternally, That he might not undergo decay.

You indeed put them on slippery ground; You dropped them into ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.When my heart was embittered And I was pierced within,Then I was stupid and ignorant; I was like an animal before You.Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.You will guide me with Your plan, And afterward receive me to glory.Whom do I have in heaven but You? And with You, I desire nothing on earth.My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.But as for me, the nearness of God is good for me; I have made the Lord God my refuge, So that I may tell of all Your works.

it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

Your covenant with death will be canceled, And your pact with Sheol will not stand; When the gushing flood passes through, Then you will become its trampling ground.

If He were to determine to do so, If He were to gather His spirit and His breath to Himself,

For we will surely die and are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. Yet God does not take away life, but makes plans so that the banished one will not be cast out from Him.

But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent, And uproot you from the land of the living. SelahThe righteous will see and fear, And they will laugh at him, saying,“ Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire.”

They went after them to the Jordan, and behold, all the way was full of clothes and equipment which the Arameans had thrown away when they fled in a hurry. Then the messengers returned and informed the king.

Who knows that the spirit of the sons of mankind ascends upward and the spirit of the animal descends downward to the earth?

“ When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people.He shall say to them,‘ Hear, Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or be terrified by them,for the Lord your God is the One who is going with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’The officers also shall speak to the people, saying,‘ Who is the man that has built a new house but has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would dedicate it.And who is the man that has planted a vineyard but has not put it to use? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would put it to use.And who is the man that is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would marry her.’Then the officers shall speak further to the people and say,‘ Who is the man that is afraid and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, so that he does not make his brothers’ hearts melt like his heart!’
