As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practice it.

No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation, that dark battle. And in the face of death, wickedness will certainly not rescue the wicked.

按所保留給人的、只有一次的死，死後有審判。

惡人必在他所行的壞事上被推倒；義人必因他的純全而得避難。

甚麼人能長活着、而不見死，能搭救自己脫離陰間的掌握呢？（細拉）

他固然由於軟弱而被釘十字架，卻由於上帝之大能力仍然活着。我們呢、我們在他裏面雖也軟弱，但由於上帝之大能力、我們卻要和他一同活着來服事你們。

惡人都必回歸陰間；一切忘記上帝的外國人都必返回於冥府。

那些倚仗資財、自誇財富多的人、一個也不能買贖自己，不能將贖價交給上帝，使他永久活着，不見冥坑；因為贖他性命的價值極貴，他只好永遠罷休，勿圖自贖。

啊，你實在把他們安在滑地，使他們掉在完全荒廢的地步。一眨眼間他們怎樣地成了荒涼啊！他們全都被可怕的災難滅盡了。就像個夢，醒了以後、便歸無有；你起來，就看不到其影像。因此我的心思乖戾，我的心腸都被刺傷；我，我是畜類無知；在你面前就如牲口一般。但是我，我卻不斷和你同在；是你在攙着我的右手。你用你的勸言忠告來領導我，以後還要拿尊榮來接我。你以外、在天上我有誰呢？你以外、在地上我也無所愛慕。我的肉體我的心腸衰殘；但上帝是我心靠的磐石，是我的業分到永遠。啊，遠離你的、必定滅亡；凡變節離棄你的、你都剿滅。至於我呢，親近上帝是最好的：我以主永恆主為我的避難所，好叫我敘說你一切的作為。

他被種、在羞辱中，他得甦活起來、在榮耀之中；他被種在軟弱中，他得甦活起來、在強壯能力中；

那麼你們跟死亡所立的約就必被解除，你們跟陰間所結的盟就立不住；橫流猛漲的大水經過時，你們就必被蹂躪了。

他若將生氣收回於自己，將氣息收拾歸自己，

我們都是必死的，就如同水潑在地上，不能收拾起來一樣；但人若想法子使被放逐的人不永遠被放逐而離開他，上帝是不奪取他性命的。

上帝也必拆毁你到永久；他必將你攫去，將你從帳棚中扯走，將你從活人之地拔起根來。（細拉）義人必看見，必起了敬畏的心，必譏笑他，說：『看哪，這就是那不以上帝為逃難所的勇士！他只倚靠他財物之豐富，而逃難於自己的毁滅中！』

使者追尋到約但河，看見路上滿是亞蘭人慌慌張張時所丟棄的衣服和器物，就回來，向王報告。

誰能知道人類的靈是往上升、獸類的魂是往下降而入於地呢？

『你出去對你仇敵爭戰的時候，看見馬匹、車輛、人民、比你大，你不要怕他們；因為是永恆主你的上帝、那領你從埃及地上來的、與你同在。你們將近上戰場的時候，祭司要走近前去，向人民講話，對他們說：「以色列啊，聽吧；今天你們將近要對仇敵爭戰，可不要膽怯；不要懼怕，不要慌張，不要因他們而驚恐；因為是永恆主你們的上帝、他在和你們同去，為你們同仇敵交戰，來拯救你們。」官吏也要對人民講話說：「有甚麼人建造房屋、還沒有行奉獻禮的？他可以回家去，恐怕他死在戰場上，而別人去奉獻。有甚麼人栽種葡萄園，還沒有開始享用其果子的？他可以回家去，恐怕他死在戰場上，而別人去開始享用。有甚麼人聘定了妻，還沒迎娶的？他可以回家去，恐怕他死在戰場上，而別人去娶她。」官吏要對人民講話說：「有甚麼人懼怕膽怯的？他可以回家去，免得他使他的族弟兄喪膽、像他那樣喪膽。」
