There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

There is a futility that is done on the earth: there are righteous people who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked people who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.

There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

有義人行義而隕沒、有惡人行惡而長久、我於虛空之日、皆見之矣、

智者明於目、愚者行於暗、我知其終、所遇一也、

我儕則謂狂傲者有福、行惡者建立、試上帝而獲免、

惡人何以生存、享壽、勢力烜赫、

我見惡人利達、因嫉狂傲之人兮、

凡此諸事、我決志詳察之、則知義者與智者、及其作為、咸在上帝之手、或蒙愛、或見惡、人不之知、悉在其前、眾之所遭、初無或異、義者、惡者、仁者、潔者不潔者、祭者不祭者、所遇惟一、善人如何、罪人亦如何、發誓者如何、畏誓者亦如何、眾之所遇皆同、此乃日下諸事之患、人心充盈於惡、畢生狂妄為懷、後惟死者是歸、

惡人如此、恆享綏安、遂增貨財兮、我潔己心、盥手以表無辜、乃徒然兮、蓋我終日遭難、每晨受責兮、

有人孤獨無侶、無子嗣、無昆弟、而勞力不息、貨財不饜於目、自謂為誰勞力、不享福祉、斯亦虛空、乃苦任也、

其燈見滅、其禍猝來、上帝赫怒、加以困苦、彼若飄於風前之草芥、狂飇吹散之粃糠、何嘗有是事哉、爾曰、上帝積其惡、罰其嗣、然何不報於其身、使自知之、俾目睹其敗亡、親飲全能者之忿怒、其月數既盡、奚慮其家室、上帝既鞫居高者、有人能以知識教之乎、有人至死、身軀壯健、無不平康安逸、胸鬲脂充、骸骨髓潤、又有至死、心懷困苦、未嘗享福、要皆偃臥土中、為蛆所覆、我知爾意、與爾所以枉我之謀、爾曰、霸者之室家安在、惡人之居幕奚存、爾未詢行路之人乎、不知其引證乎、即惡人於患難之日獲免、在震怒之時得脫、彼之所行、孰面語之、彼之所作、誰能報之、雖然、至終被舁於墓、人守其陵、彼以幽谷之塊為甘、先之往者無數、從其後者甚繁、如是、爾之應答既謬、何為徒慰我乎、

彼乃吞滅不育之婦、惡待媰孀、然上帝以其能力、保存強者、生活無望之人、使之興起、賜以安居、俾得平康、目眷其途、彼被高舉、未幾而逝、卑降見移、與眾無殊、有若穀穗被刈、如其不然、誰證我乃言誑、辯我詞為虛乎、

我於日下、見有一患、似出於執政者之錯誤、

耶和華歟、我與爾辯、爾乃公義、然我猶欲與爾論之、惡人之道、何故亨通、行詐之流、奚為安泰、

我見人因勞力、及諸巧工、為鄰所嫉、斯亦虛空、乃為捕風、

事皆一致、故曰完人惡人、俱為上帝所滅、如災忽行殺戮、無辜者遘難、彼必笑之、世界付於惡人之手、蒙蔽鞫者之面、為之者、非上帝而誰、
