Don’t claim to be better than you are. And don’t claim to be wiser than you are. Why destroy yourself?

Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself?

So don’t be too good or too wise! Why destroy yourself?

Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom.But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and deny the truth.Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so that he can become wise.

and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings of the wise are futile.

They threw dust on their heads and kept crying out, weeping, and mourning, Woe, woe, the great city, where all those who have ships on the sea became rich from her wealth; for in a single hour she was destroyed.

But a stupid person will gain understanding as soon as a wild donkey is born a human!

See, your house is left to you desolate.

They do everything to be seen by others: They enlarge their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.

Although these have a reputation for wisdom by promoting self-made religion, false humility, and severe treatment of the body, they are not of any value in curbing self-indulgence.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, but gulp down a camel!

They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods that God created to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth.

Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop!

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

But beyond these, my son, be warned: there is no end to the making of many books, and much study wearies the body.

I don’t want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited: A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

I can testify about them that they have zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

“ Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.“ Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.When you pray, don’t babble like the Gentiles, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words.

He said to mankind,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding.”

“ Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat.”He answered them,“ Why do you break God’s commandment because of your tradition?For God said: Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.But you say,‘ Whoever tells his father or mother,“ Whatever benefit you might have received from me is a gift committed to the temple,”he does not have to honor his father.’ In this way, you have nullified the word of God because of your tradition.Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said:This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.They worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines human commands.”

The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous,

Let no one condemn you by delighting in ascetic practices and the worship of angels, claiming access to a visionary realm. Such people are inflated by empty notions of their unspiritual mind.
