所以，祂把烈怒和战火倾倒在他们身上。他们被火包围，却不明白；被烈火焚身，却不在乎。

耶和华不完成祂心中的计划决不息怒。将来你们会清楚地明白这一切。

祂让你们忍饥挨饿，然后赐给你们祖祖辈辈从未见过的吗哪吃，为了使你们明白人活着不是单靠食物，乃是靠祂口中的每一句话。

坚固各地门徒的信心，鼓励他们要持守信仰，并且说：“我们在进入上帝国的道路上必经历许多苦难。”

以上所说的，总而言之，就是要敬畏上帝，遵守祂的诫命，这是人的本分。

同样，现在你们有忧愁，但到我再见你们的时候，你们的心必欢喜，而且这份喜乐是谁也夺不去的。“到那一天，你们就什么也不用问我了。我实实在在地告诉你们，你们奉我的名无论向父求什么，祂都会赐给你们。

你把我的哀哭变成了舞步，为我脱下悲伤的麻衣，披上喜乐的外袍，好叫我从心底歌颂你，不致默然无声。我的上帝耶和华啊，我要永远向你感恩！

“我厌恶自己的生命，我要倾诉我的哀怨，吐露心中的苦水。我对上帝说，‘不要定我的罪。请告诉我，你为何指控我？

那日，万军之耶和华呼召你们哭泣哀号，剃光头发，身披麻衣。但你们还是欢喜作乐，宰牛杀羊，喝酒吃肉，说：“让我们吃喝吧！因为明天我们就死了。”万军之耶和华启示我说：“你们这罪到死也得不到赦免。这是主——万军之耶和华说的。”

若他们在那里回心转意，向你恳求，承认自己犯罪作恶了；

耶和华在向耶路撒冷呼喊，智者必敬畏祂的名。祂说：“聚在城里的众人啊，你们要听！

万军之耶和华说，你们要认真反省自己的行为。你们种多收少，吃不饱，喝不足，穿不暖，挣来的工钱却放在漏口袋中。”万军之耶和华说：“你们要认真反省自己的行为。

你们中间正在受苦的人应该祷告，喜乐的人应该唱歌赞美，

你惩罚的手高高举起，他们却看不见。愿他们因看见你向你子民所发的热心而感到羞愧。愿你为敌人预备的火烧灭他们。

我受苦对我有益，使我可以学习你的律例。

耶和华啊，蒙你管教并用律法训诲的人有福了！你使他们在患难中有平安，恶人终必灭亡。

圣经上说，‘我喜爱怜悯之心，而非祭物’，你们去揣摩这句话的意思吧。我来不是要召义人，乃是要召罪人。”
