人有百子、又獲遐齡、生不能享福、死不得善葬、以我觀之、胎未成人者、較彼愈美。

設人生百子、又享遐齡、在世之年日甚多、而不得享所有以為福、死後亦不得安葬、以我觀之、以我觀之原文作我則曰胎死者較彼尤美、

A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

A man might have a hundred children. He might live a long time. But suppose he can’t enjoy his wealth. And suppose he isn’t buried in the proper way. Then it doesn’t matter how long he lives. I’m telling you that a baby that is born dead is better off than that man is.

If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with life’s good things, and he also has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

A man might have a hundred children and live to be very old. But if he finds no satisfaction in life and doesn’t even get a decent burial, it would have been better for him to be born dead.

A man may father a hundred children and live many years. No matter how long he lives, if he is not satisfied by good things and does not even have a proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

我為甚麼又不像流產而埋藏的胎、以歸於無？不像未見光的死產嬰呢？

我並且以為、那未曾生的、就是那未曾經驗過日光之下所發生的壞事的、比這兩種人還好。

他必被埋葬，像驢之被埋葬，被拖拉，被拋擲於耶路撒冷城門之外。』

但他們要去埋葬她時，竟找不到她的全屍，只找到頭蓋骨、腳和手掌。

雅各對法老說：『我寄居在世的年日已有一百三十歲：我一生的年日又少又苦，趕不上我祖宗寄居在世的日子一生的年日。』

惟獨你被拋棄，不得進你的墳墓，好像可厭的屍身，發出被刀刺死者的臭味，墜落到陰坑的根基，如同屍身被踐踏。在埋葬上你不能和君王一道，因為你的轄地你毁壞了，你的人民你殺戮了。『願那作壞事者後裔的名永不被稱道。

以利常給以利加拿和他妻子祝福說：『願永恆主由這婦人建立後裔給你，來代替你所獻歸永恆主的孩子。』他們就回自己地方去了。永恆主眷顧哈拿，哈拿就懷孕，生了三個兒子、兩個女兒。那孩子撒母耳和永恆主面同在、漸漸長大。

以掃舉目、看見婦人孩子，就說：『這些跟着你的是誰？』雅各說：『是上帝施恩給你僕人的孩子。』

王便吩咐要這樣行：一道勅令傳在書珊；人就把哈曼十個兒子的屍首掛起來。亞達月十四日、在書珊的猶大人也聚集攏來，在書珊殺了三百人；至於掠物、他們卻沒有下手去拿。

拋散在日頭、月亮、和天上的萬象之下，就是他們從前所喜愛、所事奉、所隨從、所求問、所敬拜的；這些骸骨必不再被收殮，不再埋葬，就在地面上成為糞土。

亞哈有七十個兒子在撒瑪利亞。耶戶寫信、送到撒瑪利亞、給城裏的首領、給長老們和養育亞哈眾子的人，說：

羅波安娶了十八個妻子、六十個妾，生了二十八個兒子、六十個女兒；他卻愛押沙龍的孫女瑪迦、勝過愛所有的妻妾。

人子固然必須去，照指着他所記的；但是那人、人子由他而被送官的、有禍啊！那人若不生下來，對於他倒好。』

像蝸牛消失而過去，像婦人流產未見天日的胎。

於是人將哈曼掛在他為末底改所豫備的示眾木架上；王的烈怒這才消熄。

因此永恆主論猶大王約雅敬就這麼說：他後裔中必沒有人坐大衛的寶座；他的屍體必被拋擲出去，日間去受炎熱，夜裏去受寒霜。

而在我的眾兒子裏——因為永恆主賜給我許多兒子——他揀選了我的兒子所羅門坐永恆主之國的王位來管理以色列。

青年時生的兒女、好像勇士手中的箭。箭袋充滿了箭的人有福啊！他們在城門口跟仇敵說話時，必不至於羞愧。

子孫是老人的華冠；父親是兒女的光榮。

哈曼將他財富之豐厚、他兒女之眾多、以及王怎樣使他尊大、怎樣高升了他超過眾官長和王的臣僕們、都敘說給他們聽。
