就是有人、上帝賜給他財富、資產、尊榮，以致他心裏所願的一無所缺；但上帝卻沒有使他有能力可以喫用，反而有外人來喫用：這是虛空，也是厲害的弊病。

God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

你所沒有祈求的我也賜給你，就是財富、尊榮；儘你在世的日子、在列王中沒有一人能比得上你的。

他們的罪孽因體胖而生出；他們心裏所狂想的橫流瀰漫。

他們的家宅平安無懼，上帝的刑杖未曾打過他們。他們的公牛、傳種而不厭倦；他們的母牛、下犢而不掉胎。他們打發小孩出去、多如羊羣；他們的兒女踴躍舞蹈。他們隨着手鼓和琴而高唱，又因簫笛的聲音而歡喜。他們興隆順遂地消磨了年日，一眨眼就下陰間，毫無痛苦。然而他們對上帝說：「離開我們吧！我們不願意認識你的道路。全能者是甚麼，我們得事奉他呀？我們向他祈求、有甚麼用處？」

然後對自己說，人哪，你有許多財物存放着、做許多年的用處；你安逸度日，喫喝快樂吧！」但上帝卻對他說：「糊塗人哪，就在今天夜裏，你的財物就要要你的命了！你所豫備的、要歸誰呢？」

有人孤單無二：沒有兒子也沒有弟兄，他的一切勞碌永無了結，他的眼目也從未以財富為足，以致他從未自問：我勞勞碌碌、薄於自奉，而不享樂，到底為的是誰？這也是虛空，是極喫力的勞苦。

上帝對所羅門說：『你心裏既有這個意思：你不祈求財富、資產、尊榮，也不求滅恨你的人的性命，連長壽你也不祈求，只祈求智慧學識，好判斷我的人民、就是我立你作王來管理的；

你土地上的果實、你勞碌得來的、你不認識的族民必喫盡它；你只是日日不斷地受欺壓受壓制；

他怎樣來，他也準準怎樣地去：這也是一宗大禍患：他為了風而勞碌、有甚麼益處呢？又儘他一生的日子都在黑暗和悲哀中，多有煩惱，又有病症嘔氣，有甚麼益處？

我們的產業轉歸外族人，我們的房屋歸與外籍民。

我又看一切勞碌和各樣工作上的技巧都是人對鄰舍羨慕之表現：這也是虛空，也是捕風。

王啊，至高的上帝曾將國位、大權、尊榮、威嚴、賜給你父尼布甲尼撒；

在你中間的寄居者必漸漸上升、比你高了又高，你卻要漸漸下降，低了又低。

你們去、是到一族安心無慮的人那裏去的；那地兩面寬闊；上帝已把那地交在你們手中；是個一無所缺的地方；地上百物它全都有。』

他得享長壽、歲數滿足，受盡了豐富尊榮，然後死；他兒子所羅門接替他作王。

外族人吞喫了他的力量，他卻不知道；斑白頭髮散布他頭上，他也不覺得。

我為自己動大工程，建造房屋，為自己栽種葡萄園，為自己修造庭園和園圃，在其中栽種各樣果木樹；我為自己挖造水池，用來澆灌生長的樹林。我買了僕婢，也有生於家中的僕婢；我又有許多牛羣羊羣，勝過我以前所有在耶路撒冷的人。我又為自己積蓄着金銀、和君王的珍寶、各省的珍寶；我得了男女歌唱者和人類所喜愛之物、並許多的妃嬪。這樣我就日見昌大，勝過我以前所有在耶路撒冷的人；並且我的智慧仍為我所有。凡我的眼所求的、我沒有留下而不給它的；凡我的心所喜樂的、我沒有阻止而不讓享受的；因為我的心從我一切所勞碌的獲得快樂：這就是我從一切勞碌中所得的分。

因為永恆主你的上帝正在領你進入美好之地；那地有流水的溪河，有泉有源，在峽谷和山中流出來；那地有小麥、大麥、葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹；那地有出油的橄欖樹、有蜜；在那地你喫食物、並不顯着寒酸；在那裏你一無所缺；那地的石頭就是鐵；從它的山上你可以鑿出銅來。你必喫得飽足，並且因永恆主你的上帝所賜給你的美地而祝頌他。

人走來走去、簡直是影兒；悲哀歎息不過是虛幻；他積聚着財寶，不知誰來收取。

永恆主使所羅門在以色列眾人面前非常尊大，又賜給他君王的威榮、是他以前管理以色列的諸王所未曾享受過的。
