設人生百子、又享遐齡、在世之年日甚多、而不得享所有以為福、死後亦不得安葬、以我觀之、以我觀之原文作我則曰胎死者較彼尤美、

人苟生百子、享壽高、歷年久、而心不得享福、身不獲安葬、我謂未盈期而生者、較彼尤愈、

人有百子、又獲遐齡、生不能享福、死不得善葬、以我觀之、胎未成人者、較彼愈美。

A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

A man might have a hundred children. He might live a long time. But suppose he can’t enjoy his wealth. And suppose he isn’t buried in the proper way. Then it doesn’t matter how long he lives. I’m telling you that a baby that is born dead is better off than that man is.

If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with life’s good things, and he also has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

較此二者、未生於世、未見日下所作之惡事者更為幸、○

王遂命如是以行、宣詔於書珊、將哈曼十子之屍懸之、亞達月十四日、書珊之猶大人聚集、又殺三百人、不取貨財、

擲於地、為日月及天上眾星所照、或作陳列於日月及天之眾星前日月眾星、即彼昔所愛所奉所向所拜者、其骨不殮不葬、必在地視為糞壤、

亞哈有子七十人、在撒瑪利亞、耶戶作書、寄至撒瑪利亞、達於耶斯烈諸牧伯、諸長老、及教育亞哈眾子者、

羅波安娶后十八、立妃六十、生子二十八、女六十、惟愛押沙龍女瑪迦、過於諸后妃、

人子將逝、如經所載、惟賣人子者禍矣、其人不生為幸、

故我見人在天主所賜之年中、式食式飲、以享日下所勞碌而得者、乃為善且美、蓋所得之分惟此、然無論何人、天主賜以貨財產業、能以享用、能取其分、能樂其由勞碌而得者、此亦天主所賜、不常思其年壽、因天主使之諸事遂心、得以歡樂故也、

使其如消化之蝸牛、亦如墮落之胚胎、不見日光、

左右將哈曼懸於哈曼為懸末底改所立之木上、王怒始息、

故主論猶大王約雅敬如是云、其後嗣必無人坐於大衛之位、其屍必擲於外、書暴夜寒、

主賜我多子、在我眾子中、選我子所羅門坐主之國位、以治以色列人、

壯年所生之男子、如勇士手中之箭、人多男子、猶箭充滿箭囊、即為有福、

孫如老者之冕、父乃子之榮、

將其富厚之榮、子女之繁、及王擢而升之、超乎諸牧伯群臣之上、一切告之、
