人苟生百子、享壽高、歷年久、而心不得享福、身不獲安葬、我謂未盈期而生者、較彼尤愈、

人若生一百个儿子，活许多岁数，以致他的年日甚多，心里却不得满享福乐，又不得埋葬；据我说，那不到期而落的胎比他倒好。

人有百子、又獲遐齡、生不能享福、死不得善葬、以我觀之、胎未成人者、較彼愈美。

設人生百子、又享遐齡、在世之年日甚多、而不得享所有以為福、死後亦不得安葬、以我觀之、以我觀之原文作我則曰胎死者較彼尤美、

A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

A man might have a hundred children. He might live a long time. But suppose he can’t enjoy his wealth. And suppose he isn’t buried in the proper way. Then it doesn’t matter how long he lives. I’m telling you that a baby that is born dead is better off than that man is.

If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with life’s good things, and he also has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

A man might have a hundred children and live to be very old. But if he finds no satisfaction in life and doesn’t even get a decent burial, it would have been better for him to be born dead.

或如未滿期之胎、未見光之嬰、

且以未生之人、未睹日下所作之惡者、較斯二者為尤愈也、○

人必曳之而出、擲於耶路撒冷邑外、瘞之如驢、○

遂往葬之、僅得其頭顱、與足及手掌而已、

對曰、余旅世年百有三十、我之歲月無幾、且歷艱苦、不及吾祖旅世之年、

惟爾見擲、不入於墓、若被棄之枝、以被刺而死、下於石坑者為衣、若被踐之屍、爾不與諸王同葬、因爾敗爾國、殺爾民、惡人之裔、其名永不稱焉、○

以掃見婦與子、問偕爾者何人、曰、上帝施恩、賜僕之子、

王命依此而行、頒詔於書珊、遂取哈曼十子懸之、亞達月十四日、居書珊之猶大人復集、殺三百人、惟不取其貨財、

陳於日月天象之下、即其所戀慕、服事順從、尋求崇拜者、無人收而瘞之、將於地上同乎糞土、

亞哈有子七十、在撒瑪利亞、耶戶作書、寄撒瑪利亞、致耶斯列之首領即長老、及教育亞哈諸子者、

羅波安娶后妃十八、嬪嬙六十、生子二十八、女六十、惟愛押沙龍女瑪迦、過諸后妃、

人子將逝、如經所載、惟賣人子者禍矣、其人不生為幸、

畢生飲食於暗、且多煩惱、遘疾逢怒、○我所見為善為美者、人在上帝所賜有生之期、飲食而享於日下勞而得者、此乃其值也、凡蒙上帝賜以資財富有、俾能享受、而取其值、樂其所勞、此乃上帝之賜也、

如蝸消滅而逝、如婦不及期而產者、未睹日光兮、

遂以哈曼、懸於為末底改所備之木、王怒乃息、

故耶和華論猶大王約雅敬曰、彼必無人坐大衛之位、其屍被擲於外、晝受暑、夜經霜、

耶和華賜我多子、在我子中簡我子所羅門、居耶和華國之位、以治以色列人、

壯時之子、如武士手中之矢兮、滿其箙者、其有福矣、於邑門語敵時、不至愧恥兮、

子孫為耆老之冕、祖父為子孫之榮、

以其財貨之富、子女之繁、及王擢而升之、超於諸伯王臣諸事、悉告之、
