God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出；他們所得的，過於心裏所想的。

他們的家宅平安無懼；神的杖也不加在他們身上。他們的公牛孳生而不斷絕；母牛下犢而不掉胎。他們打發小孩子出去，多如羊羣；他們的兒女踴躍跳舞。他們隨着琴鼓歌唱，又因簫聲歡喜。他們度日諸事亨通，轉眼下入陰間。他們對神說：離開我們吧！我們不願曉得你的道。全能者是誰，我們何必事奉他呢？求告他有甚麼益處呢？

然後要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你有許多財物積存，可作多年的費用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！』神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

有人孤單無二，無子無兄，竟勞碌不息，眼目也不以錢財為足。他說：「我勞勞碌碌，刻苦自己，不享福樂，到底是為誰呢？」這也是虛空，是極重的勞苦。

神對所羅門說：「我已立你作我民的王。你既有這心意，並不求資財、豐富、尊榮，也不求滅絕那恨你之人的性命，又不求大壽數，只求智慧聰明好判斷我的民；

你的土產和你勞碌得來的，必被你所不認識的國民吃盡。你時常被欺負，受壓制，

他來的情形怎樣，他去的情形也怎樣。這也是一宗大禍患。他為風勞碌有甚麼益處呢？

我們的產業歸與外邦人；我們的房屋歸與外路人。

我又見人為一切的勞碌和各樣靈巧的工作就被鄰舍嫉妒。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

王啊，至高的神曾將國位、大權、榮耀、威嚴賜與你父尼布甲尼撒；

在你中間寄居的，必漸漸上升，比你高而又高；你必漸漸下降，低而又低。

你們到了那裏，必看見安居無慮的民，地也寬闊。神已將那地交在你們手中；那地百物俱全，一無所缺。」

他年紀老邁，日子滿足，享受豐富、尊榮，就死了。他兒子所羅門接續他作王。

外邦人吞吃他勞力得來的，他卻不知道；頭髮斑白，他也不覺得。

我為自己動大工程，建造房屋，栽種葡萄園，修造園囿，在其中栽種各樣果木樹；挖造水池，用以澆灌嫩小的樹木。我買了僕婢，也有生在家中的僕婢；又有許多牛羣羊羣，勝過以前在耶路撒冷眾人所有的。我又為自己積蓄金銀和君王的財寶，並各省的財寶；又得唱歌的男女和世人所喜愛的物，並許多的妃嬪。這樣，我就日見昌盛，勝過以前在耶路撒冷的眾人。我的智慧仍然存留。凡我眼所求的，我沒有留下不給它的；我心所樂的，我沒有禁止不享受的；因我的心為我一切所勞碌的快樂，這就是我從勞碌中所得的分。

因為耶和華－你神領你進入美地，那地有河，有泉，有源，從山谷中流出水來。那地有小麥、大麥、葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹、橄欖樹，和蜜。你在那地不缺食物，一無所缺。那地的石頭是鐵，山內可以挖銅。你吃得飽足，就要稱頌耶和華－你的神，因他將那美地賜給你了。」

世人行動實係幻影。他們忙亂，真是枉然；積蓄財寶，不知將來有誰收取。

耶和華使所羅門在以色列眾人眼前甚為尊大，極其威嚴，勝過在他以前的以色列王。
