As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

As more and more goods are made, more and more people use them up. So how can those goods benefit their owners? All they can do is look at them with desire.

When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth— except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!

When good things increase, the ones who consume them multiply; what, then, is the profit to the owner, except to gaze at them with his eyes?

我在掠物中看見一件美好的示拿袍子、二百舍客勒銀子、一條金子、重五十舍客勒，我就貪愛這些物件，拿走了；看哪，現在正埋在我帳棚中的地裏呢，銀子在袍子底下。』約書亞就打發了差役跑到亞干的帳棚裏；果然見到東西都埋在他帳棚裏，銀子在底下。他們就從帳棚中取出來，拿到約書亞和以色列眾人那裏，倒在永恆主面前。約書亞連同以色列眾人、把謝拉的曾孫亞干、和那銀子、那件袍子、那條金子、跟他的兒子和女兒、他的牛、驢、羊、帳棚、以及他一切所有的、都帶上亞割山谷去。約書亞說：『你為甚麼把我們搞壞呢？今天永恆主必搞壞你。』於是以色列眾人扔石頭把他砍死，用火燒了他們，又拿石頭丟在他們上頭。

跟亞伯蘭同行的羅得也有羊羣牛羣和帳棚。那地容不下他們住在一起；因他們的活財物很多，他們便不能住在一起。牧養亞伯蘭牲畜的人和牧養羅得牲畜的人就起了紛爭。當時迦南人和比利洗人住在那地。

法老因這婦人的緣故就好待亞伯蘭；亞伯蘭得了羊羣、牛羣、公驢、僕婢、母驢、駱駝。

在我席上喫飯的、有猶大人一百五十人、還有那些從四圍外國中來找我們的人。每日豫備的有公牛一隻、肥羊六隻；又給我豫備的也有飛禽；每十天就有各樣的酒給眾人。雖然如此，巡撫的俸祿、我並沒有要過；因為服役的事在這人民身上已夠重了。

亞伯蘭有牲畜金銀極多。

眼睛看到的比心裏轉來轉去想的好：這也是虛空，也是捕風。

求你使我的心傾向於你的法度，不傾向於不義之財。求你使我轉眼、不看虛謊；使我在你的話語上活過來。

所羅門王從以色列人中徵派了作苦工的人；這一批作苦工的人共有三萬。他打發他們上利巴嫩，輪流更換，每月一萬人：一個月利黎巴嫩，兩個月在家裏；由亞多尼蘭去管理他們。所羅門用了七萬扛抬重物的人，八萬在山上砍鑿。此外所羅門還用了三千三百個監管工作的官長、就是管理作工之眾民的。

你的眼不是剛飛及錢財，而錢財就沒有了麼？因為錢財是會長翅膀，如鷹向天上飛去的。

青年人哪，你在幼年時快樂吧；在青年日子使你的心高興吧；按你的心所願行的而行，按你的眼所愛看的而看吧。不過你要知道、為了這一切、上帝總要使你受審判。

所羅門一天所用的食物是細麵三十歌珥、粗麵六十歌珥、肥牛十隻，牧場的牛二十隻、羊一百隻，還有鹿、瞪羚羊、麅子，和肥禽。

人發財、而不按正道，就像鷓鴣聚子，而不是自己下的蛋所出的，到了中年日子牠們便離開他，他終於成為愚昧人。
