因為人類所遭遇的、獸類也遭遇着：他們都有一樣的遭遇：這個怎樣死，那個也怎樣死；二者都有一樣的氣息：人比獸並沒有甚麼長處；都是虛空。

因为世人遭遇的，兽也遭遇，所遭遇的都是一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，气息都是一样。人不能强于兽，都是虚空。

因为世人遭遇的，走兽也遭遇，所遭遇的都一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，他们都有一样的气息。人不能强于走兽，全是虚空；

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless.

Surely what happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don’t have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

For people and animals share the same fate— both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless!

主啊，求你記得人的一生是怎麼樣；你創造全人類使他們何等的虛空！（細拉）甚麼人能長活着、而不見死，能搭救自己脫離陰間的掌握呢？（細拉）

但人死了就過去；人一氣絕，究竟在哪裏呢？湖中的水絕盡，江河旱竭乾涸。人也這樣：他躺下去，就不能再起來；等到天都沒了、仍醒不過來，也不能從長眠中喚醒過來。

你掩面，牠們便惶恐；你收回牠們的氣，牠們就死亡，仍歸於塵土。

故此我轉想：為了我在日光之下辛辛苦苦勞碌得來的一切，我的心便絕望了。因為有人用智慧知識和技巧所勞碌得來的、卻必須留給未曾勞碌於其上的人為業分：這也是虛空，也是大患。人從他一切的勞碌和操心，就是他在日光之下所勞碌的，得了甚麼呢？因為他一生的日子都是痛苦，他的勞苦便是愁苦；連夜間他的心也不能偃息：這也是虛空。

我們都是必死的，就如同水潑在地上，不能收拾起來一樣；但人若想法子使被放逐的人不永遠被放逐而離開他，上帝是不奪取他性命的。

畜類之人不曉得，愚頑之人不明白：惡人發生如草，一切作孽之人一時發旺，正是要永久消滅的。

智慧人的眼在頭上看；愚頑人在黑暗裏走；我卻深知這兩種人都必遇見同一樣的遭遇。
