人所遇者、獸亦遇之、人與獸所遇惟一、此之死猶彼之死、同一氣之呼吸、人無所愈於獸、悉屬虛空、

世人禽獸、同一氣之呼吸、其必死無以異也、則人不遠於禽獸、而萬事悉歸諸虛矣。

人命獸命俱同、原文作人之所遇無異獸之所遇人與獸所遇惟一死亦彼此無異、皆恃呼吸之氣、如此、人無所勝於獸、皆屬於虛、

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless.

Surely what happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don’t have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

For people and animals share the same fate— both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless!

因为智慧人与愚昧人一样，不会被永远记念；在将要来的日子，一切都会被忘掉。为什么智慧人像愚昧人一样会死亡呢？

看哪，你赐给我的年日屈指可数，我的一生在你面前如同无有；所有人站得最稳的时候，也都全然虚空！细拉人们往来行走，只是幻像；他们喧闹，也是虚空；他们积蓄，却不知道谁会收取。

求你记念我的一生是多么短暂，你创造的所有世人是多么虚妄！谁能存活而不见死亡呢？谁能救自己的灵魂脱离阴间的权势呢？细拉

你隐藏你的脸，它们就惶恐；你收回它们的气息，它们就断气，归回尘土。

于是我回顾我在日光之下劳苦所做的一切工，就心感绝望；因为一个人用智慧、知识和技能劳苦工作，却把自己所得的份给了那未曾劳苦的人。这也是虚空，也是极大的悲苦！人一切的劳苦和他心里的追求，就是他在日光之下的劳碌所为，到底能为自己成就什么呢？其实他一生的日子都是痛苦，他的事务都是烦恼，他的心甚至在夜间也不得安息。这也是虚空！

愚拙人不明白，愚昧人不领悟：尽管恶人如牧草茂盛，所有做坏事的人都兴旺，他们也要被永远除灭。

智慧人看得见他的道路，愚昧人却在黑暗中行走。不过我也明白，同样的命运会临到他们这两种人。
