I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.

I hated everything I had worked for on earth. I’ll have to leave all of it to someone who lives after me.

I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,

I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned.

世人行動乃虛幻、擾攘乃徒勞、積蓄貨財、不知誰取兮、

彼必見智者死、愚者蠢者偕亡、其財遺於他人兮、

我依上帝所賜之恩、猶良工師置基、而他人建於其上、惟當各慎其如何建耳、

惟上帝謂之曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾靈、則所備者誰歸、

故耶和華諭之曰、爾既行是、不守我約、及我命爾之典章、我必奪爾國祚、以予爾僕、第緣爾父大衛之故、於爾存日、我不行是、惟必奪於爾子之手、然不奪其全國、因我僕大衛、及我所簡之耶路撒冷故、以一支派錫予爾子、○

且以未生之人、未睹日下所作之惡者、較斯二者為尤愈也、○

我興鉅工、為己建屋、植葡萄園、治園囿、而植諸果於其中、鑿池沼、以灌樹木而養之、購僕婢、亦有生於我家者、復有牛羊成羣、勝於先我在耶路撒冷者、且積金銀、及諸王諸州之珍寶、又得伶人歌女、及人所悅者、姬妾眾多、我寖昌大、勝於先我在耶路撒冷者、而我之智慧尚存、

人於日下所勞力之操作、何益之有、

我於日下見有大患、乃人存積貨財、反自害也、猝遭禍患、貨財俱亡、如其生子、手無所有、

我知我去後、將有兇狼入爾中、不惜其羣、亦將有人起於爾中、出悖逆之言、誘門徒從之、

彼所悅者、錫以智慧、知識歡樂、惟以憂勞加於罪人、使其所收所積、歸於上帝所悅者、斯亦虛空、乃為捕風、

我所見為善為美者、人在上帝所賜有生之期、飲食而享於日下勞而得者、此乃其值也、

上帝所畀爾於日下生存之期、咸屬虛空、當與所愛之妻、歡然度日、此為爾於日下畢生操作、所得之值也、

曰、若是、求祖遣拉撒路往我父家、我有兄弟五人、使彼證之、免其亦來此痛苦之處也、

耶和華歟、以手援我、脫於斯世之人、其業乃在今生兮、爾以財貨充其懷、子孫遂其欲、餘業遺於後嗣兮、

專心用智考察天下所為之事、則知此為苦任、乃上帝畀於世人、以之為務、
