有一个人孤单无伴，连儿子和兄弟也没有；但他各样的劳苦却没有穷尽，他的眼目也不因财富而满足；他问：“我如此劳苦，也不让自己过好日子，到底是为了谁呢？”这也是虚空，是极重的担子！

他们将不再饥饿，也不再干渴；太阳或任何炎热也不会伤到他们；因为在宝座中的羔羊将牧养他们，领他们到生命水的泉源；神要从他们的眼中抹去一切泪水。”

我转眼又看到在日光之下所行的一切欺压。看哪，受欺压者流泪，无人安慰他们！权势在欺压他们的人手中，却无人安慰受欺压者！所以我感叹，那些早已死去的死人，胜过那些还活着的活人；但那还没有出生的人，比这两者更好，因他没有见过在日光之下所行的恶事。我也看到，一切的劳苦和各样工作的技能，都是出于人与邻人之间的嫉妒。这也是虚空，也是捕风！

贪爱银子的不会因银子满足，贪爱财富的也不会因利益满足。这也是虚空！财物增加，吃用的人也增加，而主人除了眼看以外，还有什么益处呢？

原来神把智慧、知识和喜乐赐给他所喜悦的人；至于罪人，神加给他们担子，让他们去收取、积聚，好给神所喜悦的人。这也是虚空，也是捕风！

饥渴慕义的人是蒙福的，因为他们将得饱足。

我们知道，所有被造之物都一同呻吟、同受阵痛，直到如今。不仅如此，连我们这些有圣灵为初熟果子的人，也在自己里面呻吟叹息，热切等待得到儿子的名份，就是等待我们的身体得蒙救赎。

但当我回顾我手所做的一切事，以及我劳苦所做的工，看哪，全是虚空，全是捕风！在日光之下毫无益处。

那已有的事，既遥远又极其深奥，谁能发现呢？我转去用心了解、探察、寻求智慧和事理，为要明白邪恶是愚昧的、愚昧是狂妄的。我发现一种女人，比死亡还苦毒：她的心是圈套和网罗，她的手是镣铐。蒙神喜悦的人必能逃离她；但罪人必被她缠住。

水蛭有两个女儿，常说“给我！给我！”有三样东西不饱足，连同不说“够了”的共有四样，就是：阴间、不孕的母胎、水源不足的土地、不说“够了”的火。

我的心就像饱尝了骨髓脂油，我的口要以欢乐的嘴唇发出赞美。
