有人孤單無依，沒有兒子，沒有兄弟，仍勞碌不休，眼目也不以自己的財富為足。他問：“我勞勞碌碌，刻薄自己不去享受，是為誰呢？”這也是虛空，是勞苦的擔子。

他們必不再餓，也不再渴；太陽和一切炎熱必不傷害他們。因為在寶座中間的羊羔必牧養他們，領他們到生命水的泉源那裡。神也必抹去他們的一切眼淚。”

我又看見日光之下所發生一切欺壓的事：受欺壓的流淚，卻無人安慰他們；欺壓他們的，手裡握著權柄，因此無人安慰受欺壓的。我讚歎那已死的人，勝過那還活著的人。那還沒生下來的，就是還沒看過日光之下所行的惡事的，比這兩種人更有福。我看見各樣的勞碌和各樣精巧的工作，都是出於人與人彼此的競爭。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

貪愛銀子的，不因有銀子滿足；貪愛財富的，也不因得利知足。這也是虛空。財物增加，吃用的人也增加，物主除了眼看以外，還有甚麼益處呢？

神把智慧、知識和喜樂賜給他所喜悅的人，卻使罪人作收集和積聚的差事，把所得的歸給神所喜悅的人。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

愛慕公義如飢如渴的人有福了，因為他們必得飽足。

我們知道被造的萬物直到現在都一同在痛苦呻吟。不但這樣，連我們這些有聖靈作為初熟果子的人，自己也在內心歎息，熱切期待成為嗣子，就是我們的身體得贖。

然後，我省察我手所作的一切，和我勞碌所成就的，想不到一切都是虛空，都是捕風，在日光之下毫無益處。

那離得遠又極深奧的，誰能找到呢？我轉念，一心去了解、考察並尋覓智慧和事理，又要知道愚蒙是邪惡的，狂妄是愚昧的。我發現一個比死亡更惡毒的婦人，她有如羅網，心如陷阱，手如鎖鍊。蒙神喜悅的人得以擺脫她，罪人卻被她纏住。

水蛭有兩個女兒，常說：‘給我！給我！’不知足的東西有三樣，連總不說‘夠了’的共有四樣，就是陰間、不能生育的婦人、水源不足之地和總不說‘夠了’的火。

我的心滿足，就像飽享了骨髓肥油；我要用歡樂的嘴唇讚美你。
