So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

遍山皆煙、煙燄上騰、如窰之煙、全山大震、

當時烈火焚山、聲由晦冥出、爾既聞之、爾支派牧伯及爾長老至我前、

其時爾眾立於山下、山上火焰沖天、有晦冥密雲幽暗、

爾所至者、非彼可捫之山、在彼有烈火、密雲、幽暗、暴風、

摩西遂舉杖向天、主使雷震雹降、並有火閃於地、主降雹於伊及地、

於是主悔其前言、或作轉怒回瞋不降所言之禍於己民、摩西退而下山、執二法板於手、板之二面有文字、此面有文、彼面亦然、其板乃天主所作、其上之文字、亦為天主所書、或作亦為天主之文字鐫於板上、約書亞聞民大呼、謂摩西曰、營中有閧聲、曰、此非戰勝之聲、亦非戰敗之聲、所聞者乃謳歌之聲、摩西近營、見犢、又見民舞蹈、怒甚、以手中二板擲於山下而碎之、以所造之犢、焚以火、搗為粉、灑於水、令以色列人飲之、摩西謂亞倫曰、斯民於爾何為、竟使之陷於重罪、亞倫曰、我主毋怒、爾知斯民專於作惡、謂我曰、為我儕作神、可為我前導、蓋導我出伊及之摩西、不知其何遇、我謂之曰、凡有金飾、可脫之以予我、我以金投之火中、此犢乃出、摩西見民縱肆、為亞倫所縱容、致恥辱於敵、摩西乃立於營門曰、凡歸主者可來就我、於是利未子孫、咸集就摩西、摩西謂之曰、以色列天主耶和華如是命曰、爾曹各繫刀於腰、在營中往來、從此門至彼門、拜犢者、無論兄弟朋友鄰里、盡殺之、利未人遵摩西所命而行、是日、民中死亡者約三千人、摩西謂利未人曰、爾能不顧己之子女兄弟、今日必得奉事主之職、並蒙主今日賜福於爾、○明日、摩西告民曰、爾獲大罪、我今登山覲主、或可使爾之罪得赦、摩西復覲主曰、斯民獲大罪、為己鑄金神、今求主免其罪、不然、求主塗抹我名於主所錄之册、主諭摩西曰、孰獲罪於我、我將塗其名於我之册、今爾導民往我所言之地、我之使者必為爾前導、迨我討罪之日、我將討其罪、於是主降災於民、緣其造犢、即亞倫所造之犢、
