现在这大火将要吞灭我们，我们何必死呢？若再听见耶和华我们神的声音，我们就必死。

如我仍聽我上帝耶和華之言、則此大火、必燬我身、我將死亡、爾曷為使我死亡乎。

然我恐此大火燬我、何必冒死、如我再聞主我天主之聲、則必死亡、

But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer.

这正如你在何烈山大会的那日向耶和华—你的神所求的一切，说：‘求你不要再叫我听见耶和华—我神的声音，也不要再叫我看见这大火，免得我死亡。’

那用字刻在石头上属死的事奉尚且有荣光，以致以色列人因摩西脸上那逐渐褪色的荣光不能定睛看他的脸，那属圣灵的事奉不是更有荣光吗？若是那使人定罪的事奉有荣光，那使人称义的事奉的荣光就越发大了。

因为我们的神是吞灭的火。

这样，律法是与神的应许对立吗？绝对不是！如果律法的颁布能使人得生命，义就诚然出于律法了。但圣经把万物都圈在罪里，为要使因信耶稣基督而来的应许归给信的人。

他说：“耶和华从西奈来，从西珥向他们显现，从巴兰山发出光辉；从万万圣者中来临，从他右手向他们发出烈火的律法。

凡出于律法的行为都是受诅咒的，因为经上记着：“凡不持守律法书上所记的一切而去行的，都是受诅咒的。”
