They were to rise and tell their childrenso that they might put their confidence in God and not forget God’s works, but keep his commands.Then they would not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being.Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Even while I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me, while I proclaim your power to another generation, your strength to all who are to come.

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching,

For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.

Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.Who is someone who desires life, loving a long life to enjoy what is good?Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.Turn away from evil and do what is good; seek peace and pursue it.The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.The face of the LORD is set against those who do what is evil, to remove all memory of them from the earth.

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

and he said to the Israelites,“ In the future, when your children ask their fathers,‘ What is the meaning of these stones?’

“ In the future, when your son asks you,‘ What does this mean?’ say to him,‘ By the strength of his hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of humans and the firstborn of livestock. That is why I sacrifice to the LORD all the firstborn of the womb that are males, but I redeem all the firstborn of my sons.’So let it be a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead, for the LORD brought us out of Egypt by the strength of his hand.”

My son, obey my words, and treasure my commands.

Therefore write down this song for yourselves and teach it to the Israelites; have them sing it, so that this song may be a witness for me against the Israelites.

You see that faith was active together with his works, and by works, faith was made complete,

how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him.

“ Diligently watch yourselves— because you did not see any form on the day the LORD spoke to you out of the fire at Horeb—

Therefore take care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you, and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of anything he has forbidden you.

The living, only the living can thank you, as I do today; a father will make your faithfulness known to children.

Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”
