to which anyone who had killed a person could flee if they had unintentionally killed a neighbor without malice aforethought. They could flee into one of these cities and save their life.

你們給利未人的城邑，其中當有六座逃城，使誤殺人的可以逃到那裏。此外還要給他們四十二座城。

這六座城要給以色列人和他們中間的外人，並寄居的，作為逃城，使誤殺人的都可以逃到那裏。「倘若人用鐵器打人，以致打死，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。若用可以打死人的石頭打死了人，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。若用可以打死人的木器打死了人，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。報血仇的必親自殺那故殺人的，一遇見就殺他。人若因怨恨把人推倒，或是埋伏往人身上扔物，以致於死，或是因仇恨用手打人，以致於死，那打人的必被治死。他是故殺人的；報血仇的一遇見就殺他。「倘若人沒有仇恨，忽然將人推倒，或是沒有埋伏把物扔在人身上，或是沒有看見的時候用可以打死人的石頭扔在人身上，以致於死，本來與他無仇，也無意害他。會眾就要照典章，在打死人的和報血仇的中間審判。會眾要救這誤殺人的脫離報血仇人的手，也要使他歸入逃城。他要住在其中，直等到受聖膏的大祭司死了。但誤殺人的，無論甚麼時候，若出了逃城的境外，報血仇的在逃城境外遇見他，將他殺了，報血仇的就沒有流血之罪。因為誤殺人的該住在逃城裏，等到大祭司死了。大祭司死了以後，誤殺人的才可以回到他所得為業之地。

「耶和華－你神將列國之民剪除的時候，耶和華－你神也將他們的地賜給你，你接着住他們的城邑並他們的房屋，就要在耶和華－你神所賜你為業的地上分定三座城。要將耶和華－你神使你承受為業的地分為三段；又要預備道路，使誤殺人的，都可以逃到那裏去。「誤殺人的逃到那裏可以存活，定例乃是這樣：凡素無仇恨，無心殺了人的，就如人與鄰舍同入樹林砍伐樹木，手拿斧子一砍，本想砍下樹木，不料，斧頭脫了把，飛落在鄰舍身上，以致於死，這人逃到那些城的一座城，就可以存活，免得報血仇的，心中火熱追趕他，因路遠就追上，將他殺死；其實他不該死，因為他與被殺的素無仇恨。所以我吩咐你說，要分定三座城。耶和華－你神若照他向你列祖所起的誓擴張你的境界，將所應許賜你列祖的地全然給你，你若謹守遵行我今日所吩咐的這一切誡命，愛耶和華－你的神，常常遵行他的道，就要在這三座城之外，再添三座城，免得無辜之人的血流在耶和華－你神所賜你為業的地上，流血的罪就歸於你。

藉這兩件不更改的事，神決不能說謊，好叫我們這逃往避難所、持定擺在我們前頭指望的人可以大得勉勵。
