You have witnessed what the LORD did at Baal Peor, how he eradicated from your midst everyone who followed Baal Peor.

You saw with your own eyes what the Lord did at Baal Peor. The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor,

Your own eyes saw what the Lord your God did at Baal Peor. He destroyed every one of your people who worshiped the Baal that was worshiped at Peor.

Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor.

“ You saw for yourself what the Lord did to you at Baal peor. There the Lord your God destroyed everyone who had worshiped Baal, the god of Peor.

When Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to commit sexual immorality with the daughters of Moab.These women invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; then the people ate and bowed down to their gods.When Israel joined themselves to Baal-peor, the anger of the LORD flared up against Israel.The LORD said to Moses,“ Arrest all the leaders of the people, and hang them up before the LORD in broad daylight, so that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.”So Moses said to the judges of Israel,“ Each of you must execute those of his men who were joined to Baal-peor.”Just then one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of the whole community of the Israelites, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he got up from among the assembly, took a javelin in his hand,and went after the Israelite man into the tent and thrust through the Israelite man and into the woman’s abdomen. So the plague was stopped from the Israelites.Those that died in the plague were 24,000.

They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.They made the LORD angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.

Look, these people through the counsel of Balaam caused the Israelites to act treacherously against the LORD in the matter of Peor– which resulted in the plague among the community of the LORD!

When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the wilderness. I viewed your ancestors like an early fig on a fig tree in its first season. Then they came to Baal-Peor and they dedicated themselves to shame– they became as detestable as what they loved.

But there was not a man among these who had been among those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they numbered the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai.

The sin we committed at Peor was bad enough. To this very day we have not purified ourselves; it even brought a plague on the community of the LORD.
