人民離開帳棚出發，要過約旦河的時候，抬約櫃的祭司在人民的前面。抬約櫃的祭司來到約旦河，他們的腳碰到水邊的時候（原來約旦河水在收割的日子，常是漲過兩岸的），水就停住了，那從上游流下來的水立起成壘，在很遠的地方，就是在撒拉但旁邊的亞當城那裡停住；那往下流入亞拉巴海，就是鹽海的水完全被截斷；於是人民就在耶利哥的對面過了河。抬耶和華約櫃的祭司在約旦河中間的乾地上站住，等以色列眾人都在乾地上走過去，直到全國的人都完全走過了約旦河為止。

摩西就在那一天寫下了這首詩歌，教導以色列人。耶和華吩咐嫩的兒子約書亞，說：“你當堅強勇敢，因為你要領以色列人進我向他們起誓應許的地，我必與你同在。”摩西把這律法的話寫在書上，直到寫完了，摩西就吩咐抬耶和華約櫃的利未人說：“你們要把這律法書，放在耶和華你們的神的約櫃旁，可以在那裡作反對你們的見證，

這一切災禍是按著摩西的律法書上所記載的，臨到了我們身上，但我們仍沒有懇求耶和華我們的神施恩，使我們離開罪孽，明白你的真理。

“老師，摩西曾寫給我們說：‘如果一個人死了，留下妻子，沒有兒女，他的弟弟就應當娶他的妻子，為哥哥立後。’

“你們要謹記我僕人摩西的律法，就是我在何烈山為以色列眾人所吩咐他的律例和典章。

你們若信摩西，也必信我，因為他所寫的書曾論及我。

祭司的嘴當保存知識，人要從他的口中尋求教訓，因為他是萬軍耶和華的使者。

腓力找到拿但業，告訴他：“摩西在律法書上所寫的，和眾先知所記的那位，我們已經遇見了，他就是約瑟的兒子拿撒勒人耶穌。”

那時大衛說：“神的約櫃，除了利未人以外，沒有人可以抬，因為耶和華揀選了他們抬神的約櫃，並且永遠事奉他。”

我的子民因無知識而滅亡；因為你拒絕了知識，我必拒絕你，不讓你作我的祭司；因為你忘掉了你神的律法，我也必忘記你的子孫。

你們要把你們各支派的眾長老和官長都召集到我這裡來，我好把這些話說給他們聽，並且呼天喚地對他們作證。

他們說：“摩西准許‘人寫了休書就可以休妻’。”耶穌說：“因為你們的心硬，摩西才寫這條例給你們。

對他們說：“你們是利未人各家族的首領，你們和你們的親族都要自潔，好把以色列的神耶和華的約櫃抬上來，到我為它預備的地方去。先前沒有你們，耶和華我們的神就擊打我們，因為我們沒有按照定例尋求他。”於是祭司和利未人自潔，好把以色列的神耶和華的約櫃抬上來。利未支派的子孫照著耶和華的話，就是摩西所吩咐的，用肩和槓來抬神的約櫃。
