For your ruin is spread wide as the sea; Who can heal you?Your prophets have seen for you False and deceptive visions; They have not uncovered your iniquity, To bring back your captives, But have envisioned for you false prophecies and delusions.All who pass by clap their hands at you; They hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem:“ Is this the city that is called‘ The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth’?”All your enemies have opened their mouth against you; They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say,“ We have swallowed her up! Surely this is the day we have waited for; We have found it, we have seen it!”The Lord has done what He purposed; He has fulfilled His word Which He commanded in days of old. He has thrown down and has not pitied, And He has caused an enemy to rejoice over you; He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.Their heart cried out to the Lord,“ O wall of the daughter of Zion, Let tears run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief; Give your eyes no rest.“ Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him For the life of your young children, Who faint from hunger at the head of every street.”“ See, O Lord, and consider! To whom have You done this? Should the women eat their offspring, The children they have cuddled? Should the priest and prophet be slain In the sanctuary of the Lord?“ Young and old lie On the ground in the streets; My virgins and my young men Have fallen by the sword; You have slain them in the day of Your anger, You have slaughtered and not pitied.“ You have invited as to a feast day The terrors that surround me. In the day of the LORD’s anger There was no refugee or survivor. Those whom I have borne and brought up My enemies have destroyed.”

Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, And few men are left.The new wine fails, the vine languishes, All the merry-hearted sigh.The mirth of the tambourine ceases, The noise of the jubilant ends, The joy of the harp ceases.They shall not drink wine with a song; Strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.The city of confusion is broken down; Every house is shut up, so that none may go in.There is a cry for wine in the streets, All joy is darkened, The mirth of the land is gone.In the city desolation is left, And the gate is stricken with destruction.

So the Lord could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you committed. Therefore your land is a desolation, an astonishment, a curse, and without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the husband of her youth.The grain offering and the drink offering Have been cut off from the house of the Lord; The priests mourn, who minister to the Lord.The field is wasted, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine is dried up, The oil fails.Be ashamed, you farmers, Wail, you vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field has perished.The vine has dried up, And the fig tree has withered; The pomegranate tree, The palm tree also, And the apple tree— All the trees of the field are withered; Surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.Gird yourselves and lament, you priests; Wail, you who minister before the altar; Come, lie all night in sackcloth, You who minister to my God; For the grain offering and the drink offering Are withheld from the house of your God.Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the Lord your God, And cry out to the Lord.Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.Is not the food cut off before our eyes, Joy and gladness from the house of our God?The seed shrivels under the clods, Storehouses are in shambles; Barns are broken down, For the grain has withered.How the animals groan! The herds of cattle are restless, Because they have no pasture; Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.

The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just.

“ You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts.“ Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.”

If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name,” Says the Lord of hosts,“ I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart.

since those days, when one came to a heap of twenty ephahs, there were but ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty baths from the press, there were but twenty.I struck you with blight and mildew and hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me,’ says the Lord.

If I go out to the field, Then behold, those slain with the sword! And if I enter the city, Then behold, those sick from famine! Yes, both prophet and priest go about in a land they do not know.’”

And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts,“ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.“ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts;“ And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the Lord of hosts.

What the chewing locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; What the swarming locust left, the crawling locust has eaten; And what the crawling locust left, the consuming locust has eaten.

A fire devours before them, And behind them a flame burns; The land is like the Garden of Eden before them, And behind them a desolate wilderness; Surely nothing shall escape them.

One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered.So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the Lord.“ I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, Your vineyards, Your fig trees, And your olive trees, The locust devoured them; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the Lord.

How lonely sits the city That was full of people! How like a widow is she, Who was great among the nations! The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!

Our skin is hot as an oven, Because of the fever of famine.

“ Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.“ Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.“ Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.“ Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.“ The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.“ The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.“ The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.And the Lord will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you.The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”

So she said,“ As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
