倘若有人娶了奴婢為妻，後來又另娶，他還是要照常供給她飯食和衣服，並履行同房的義務。

耶和華說：「我休你們母親的休書在哪裡呢？我把你們賣給了我哪一個債主呢？你們被賣是因為你們的罪惡，你們母親被休是因為你們的過犯。

這人要付給女方的父親六百克銀子，並娶她為妻，終生不可休她，因為他姦污了她。

如果她的後夫也嫌棄她，寫休書給她，讓她離開夫家，或者後夫死了，

若是離開了，妻子不可再嫁別人，只能與丈夫復合。丈夫也不可離棄妻子。至於其他的人，主沒有吩咐什麼，但我要說，如果某弟兄的妻子不信主，但樂意和他同住，他就不應離棄妻子。

以色列的上帝耶和華說：「我憎惡休妻和以暴虐待妻子的人。所以要守護你們的心，不可有不忠的行為。」這是萬軍之耶和華說的。

約瑟是個義人，不願公開地羞辱她，便決定暗中和她解除婚約。

「還有話說，『人若休妻，必須給她休書』。但我告訴你們，除非是妻子不貞，否則，休妻就是使妻子犯通姦罪，娶被休女子的人也犯了通姦罪。

任何人休妻另娶，就是犯通姦罪，娶被休的女子也是犯通姦罪。」
