如果那城以和平的话回答你，给你开门，城里所有的人都要给你作苦工，服事你。

那城若愿意以和平回应，给你开城，城里所有的人就要为你做苦工，服事你。

If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.

Suppose they accept your offer and open their gates. Then force all the people in the city to be your slaves. They will have to work for you.

And if it responds to you peaceably and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you.

If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And if it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and serve you.

And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that are found therein shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be,[ that] all the people[ that is] found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

西布伦没有把基伦的居民和拿哈拉的居民赶走；于是迦南人还住在西布伦中间，成了作苦工的人。亚设没有把亚柯的居民和西顿的居民赶走，也没有把亚黑拉、亚革悉、黑巴、亚弗革和利合的居民赶走。于是亚设人住在当地的居民迦南人中间，因为他们没有把他们赶走。拿弗他利没有把伯．示麦的居民和伯．亚纳的居民赶走；于是他们就住在当地的居民迦南人中间；伯．示麦和伯．亚纳的居民成了给他们作苦工的人。亚摩利人强迫但人退回山地上，不容他们下到平原来。亚摩利人决意住在希烈山、亚雅仑和沙宾；但约瑟家的势力强大以后，他们就成了作苦工的人。

到以色列强盛了，就迫使迦南人作苦工，但没有把他们完全赶走。

他们的子孙仍然留在那地，以色列人不能灭绝他们。于是所罗门征召他们作苦工的奴仆，直到今日。至于以色列人，所罗门却没有使他们作奴仆，而是作他的战士、臣仆、统领、军长、战车长和骑兵长。

因为他们是我的仆人，是我从埃及地领出来的，他们不可以卖作奴仆。你不可严严地辖制他，却要敬畏你的神。至于你需要的仆婢，可以来自你们四围的列国，你们可以从他们中间购买奴婢。你们也可以从那些与你们住在一起的外人的儿女中，或是从他们的家族中，就是那些与你们在一起，在你们境内所生的，购买奴婢；他们要作你们的产业。你们要把他们留给你们的子孙作永远的产业，你们要从他们中间取奴仆；只是你们的兄弟以色列人，你们却不可苛刻管辖。

我希望有和平，但我一说话，他们就要争战。

除了住在基遍的希未人以外，没有一座城与以色列人议和的；所有其他的城都是以色列人作战夺取的。因为这是出于耶和华的旨意，他使他们心里刚硬，要与以色列人交战，好把他们完全毁灭，使他们不蒙怜悯，却要被消灭，正如耶和华吩咐摩西的。

他本国的人却恨他，就派使者跟着去说：‘我们不愿意这个人作王统治我们。’

在那一天，约书亚指派他们在耶和华选择的地方，为会众和耶和华的祭坛作劈柴打水的人，直到今日。

可是他们没有把住在基色的迦南人赶走，于是迦南人住在以法莲中间，直到今日，成了作苦工的奴仆。
