所羅門王除了法老的女兒以外，又寵愛許多外族女子，就是摩押女子、亞捫女子、以東女子、西頓女子和赫人女子等。關於這些國家的人，耶和華曾經吩咐以色列人：“你們不可與他們往來通婚，否則他們必會引誘你們的心，去隨從他們的神。”但所羅門深深愛戀這些女子。所羅門有妃七百，都是公主；有嬪三百。他的妃嬪使他的心偏離了神。所羅門年老的時候，他的妃嬪誘惑他的心偏離了神去隨從別的神。他的心不像他的父親大衛那樣完全歸於耶和華他的神。

求你使虛假和謊言遠離我；不要使我貧窮，也不要使我富裕，只要給我需用的食物。免得我吃飽了，就不認你，說：‘耶和華是誰？’又恐怕我貧窮，就偷竊，污瀆了我神的名。

不要倚靠藉強暴得來的財物，也不要妄想倚靠搶奪回來的錢財；如果財寶加增，你的心也不要倚靠它。

大衛在希伯崙生了幾個兒子：他的長子暗嫩，是耶斯列人亞希暖所生的。次子基利押，是作過迦密人拿八的妻子亞比該所生的。三子押沙龍，是基述王達買的女兒瑪迦所生的。四子亞多尼雅，是哈及所生的。五子示法提雅，是亞比他所生的。六子以特念，是大衛妻子以格拉所生的。這些兒子都是大衛在希伯崙所生的。

於是他對眾人說：“你們要謹慎，遠離一切貪心，因為人的生命並不在於家道豐富。”

你要囑咐那些今世富有的人，叫他們不要心高氣傲，也不要寄望在浮動的財富上，卻要仰望那厚賜百物給我們享用的神。

神所作的不是一個嗎？其餘的氣息都是屬於他的。那一個尋求甚麼呢？就是神的子孫。（本節原文意思不確定）所以要謹守你們的靈性，不可對年輕時所娶的妻子不忠。

但那些想要發財的人，就落在試探中和陷阱裡；又落在許多無知而有害的私慾裡，使人沉淪在敗壞和滅亡中；

耶穌對門徒說：“我實在告訴你們，有錢的人是很難進天國的。我又告訴你們，駱駝穿過針眼，比有錢的人進神的國還容易呢！”

那撒在荊棘裡的，就是人聽了道，有今世的憂慮和財富的迷惑把道擠住，結不出果實來。

“不可為自己在地上積聚財寶，因為地上有蟲蛀，有鏽侵蝕，也有賊挖洞來偷。要為自己積聚財寶在天上，那裡沒有蟲蛀鏽蝕，也沒有賊挖洞來偷。

所羅門的一切飲器都是金子做的；黎巴嫩林宮裡的一切器皿也都是精金做的，沒有用銀子做的；原來在所羅門王的時代，銀子算不得甚麼。
