則當謹恪、勿陷於坎阱、勿求其上帝、意謂斯民服事其上帝、我亦必如是以行。

彼見滅於爾前之後、慎毋隨其惡俗陷於罪網、毋求其所敬之神、毋自言此諸國之民、如何事其諸神、我亦欲如是行、

and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying,“ How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”

They will be destroyed to make room for you. But when they are destroyed, be careful. Don’t be trapped. Don’t ask questions about their gods. Don’t say,“ How do these nations serve their gods? We’ll do it in the same way.”

take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying,‘ How did these nations serve their gods?— that I also may do the same.’

do not fall into the trap of following their customs and worshiping their gods. Do not inquire about their gods, saying,‘ How do these nations worship their gods? I want to follow their example.’

耶和華你的神交給你的所有民族，你都要把他們消滅；你的眼不可憐惜他們；你也不可事奉他們的神，因為這必成為你的網羅。

你們說：我們要像列國的人，像列邦的各族一樣去事奉木頭和石頭。你們心裡所起的這意念，必不能成就。

耶和華這樣說：“你們不要學習列國的行徑，列國因天象驚惶，你們卻不要因這些驚惶。

就要把所有的居民從你們面前趕出去，毀壞他們的一切雕像，以及一切鑄像，又拆毀他們的一切邱壇。

所以，我要這樣說，並且要在主裡肯定地說：你們行事為人不要再像教外人，存著虛妄的意念。

我領他們到了我曾經舉手起誓要賜給他們的那地，他們看見各高山和茂盛的樹林，就在那裡獻祭，在那裡奉上惹我發怒的供物，也在那裡獻上馨香的祭，並且在那裡澆上他們的奠祭。’

他們沒有照著耶和華吩咐他們的，滅絕外族的人民，反而和外族人混居雜處，學習他們的風俗習慣。他們又事奉外族人的偶像，這就成了他們的網羅。他們把自己的兒女祭祀鬼魔。他們流了無辜人的血，就是他們自己兒女的血，把他們祭祀迦南的偶像；那地就被血污穢了。

不要模仿這個世代，倒要藉著心意的更新而改變過來，使你們可以察驗出甚麼是神的旨意，就是察驗出甚麼是美好的、蒙他悅納的和完全的事。

因為你們過去隨從教外人的心意，行邪淫、私慾、醉酒、荒宴、狂飲和可憎拜偶像的事，時候已經夠了。他們見你們不再與他們同奔那縱情放蕩的路，就覺得奇怪，毀謗你們。

我要限定你的境界，從紅海直到非利士海，從曠野直到大河。我要把那地的居民交在你手中，你要把他們從你面前驅逐出去。不可與他們和他們的神立約。不可讓他們住在你的境內，恐怕他們使你得罪我；如果你事奉他們的神，這必成為你的網羅。”

你們從前住過的埃及地，那裡的居民的行為，你們不可隨從；我要領你們到的迦南地，那裡的居民的行為，你們也不可仿效。你們不可跟隨他們的風俗行。

你們不可與這地的居民立約，要拆毀他們的祭壇。’你們竟沒有聽從我的話；你們作的是甚麼呢？因此我又說：‘我必不把他們從你們面前趕走，他們要作你們的敵人（按照《馬索拉文本》，“敵人”作“邊旁”，意思不明確，或譯﹕“網羅”﹔現參照各古譯本翻譯），他們的神要作你們的網羅。’”

厭棄他的律例和他與他們的祖先訂立的約，以及他對他們的警戒；卻信從虛無的神，自己成為虛妄，跟從他們周圍的外族人，耶和華曾吩咐他們不可跟從他們的行為。
