in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

波斯王塞魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗祂藉耶利米所說的話，就感動波斯王塞魯士，使他下詔通告全國：

那位宣讀這預言的人和那些聽見並遵守其中內容的人有福了，因為日期近了。

這使我們更加確信先知的預言。你們要留意這些預言，把這些預言看作照耀在黑暗中的明燈，一直到天破曉、晨星在你們心中升起。你們首先該知道：聖經上的一切預言都不可隨人的私意解釋，因為預言絕非出於人的意思，都是人受了聖靈的感動，講出上帝的信息。

有關這救恩，那些預言恩典要臨到你們的眾先知早已詳細尋求查考了。基督的靈曾在他們心中指示他們，預言基督要受苦，然後得榮耀。他們便詳細查考這些事會在什麼時候、什麼情況下發生。他們得到啟示，知道他們傳講這些事不是為了自己，而是為了你們。現在，那些靠著從天上差來的聖靈向你們傳福音的人，已經將這些事傳給你們了。連天使也想把這些事看個明白。

並且你從小就熟悉聖經。聖經能給你智慧，使你藉著信基督耶穌得到拯救。聖經全部是上帝啟示的，有益於教導、督責、使人歸正、培養人行義，使屬上帝的人得到充分的裝備，去行各種善事。

所以，因你們的緣故，錫安必像田地被耕犁，耶路撒冷必淪為廢墟，聖殿山必成為荒林之岡。

上帝啊，外族人侵佔你的產業，玷污你的聖殿，使耶路撒冷淪為廢墟。他們把你僕人的屍體餵飛鳥，把你忠心子民的屍體給野獸吃，

我但以理看見這異象，正想明白它的意思，忽然有一個外貌像人的站在我面前。我聽見有人聲從烏萊河兩岸之間呼喊：「加百列啊，要讓此人明白這異象。」

「猶大王希西迦執政期間，摩利沙人彌迦對猶大眾人預言說，『萬軍之耶和華說錫安必被夷為平地，耶路撒冷必淪為廢墟，聖殿山要成為一片荒林。』

從前人煙稠密的城，現在何其荒涼！從前揚威萬邦的強國，現在竟像寡婦一樣。從前在諸省做公主的，現在卻淪為奴婢。

毀壞的城一片荒涼，家家戶戶大門緊閉，無人能進。人們因無酒而在街上喊叫；一切歡樂變作哀愁，地上喜樂不復存在。城裡一片荒涼，城門一片瓦礫。

我必使這殿像示羅一樣被毀，使耶路撒冷被萬國咒詛。」』」

太監問腓利：「請問先知是在說誰？在說他自己還是在說別人？」

我比我的老師更有洞見，因為我思想你的法度。我比長者更明智，因為我遵守你的法則。

「當你們看見但以理先知所說的『那帶來毀滅的可憎之物』站立在聖地的時候（讀者須會意），

我給耶路撒冷和猶大的城邑，以及猶大的君王和官員喝這杯烈怒，使他們的城邑淪為廢墟，令人驚懼，被嘲笑和咒詛，正如今日一樣。

我要使猶大各城和耶路撒冷街上的歡樂聲、新郎和新娘的歡笑聲全部消失，因為大地必荒涼。」

你的眾聖城已淪為荒場，甚至錫安已淪為荒場，耶路撒冷已淪為廢墟。

在我來之前，你要專心宣讀聖經，勉勵會眾，教導真理。

你的法度是我的喜樂，是我的謀士。

我說：「主啊，這要到什麼時候呢？」祂說：「直到城邑荒涼，無人居住，房屋空置，土地荒廢的時候。那時，我必把他們趕到遠方，他們的土地必荒蕪。

「當你們看見『那帶來毀滅的可憎之物』站在不當站的地方時（讀者須會意），住在猶太地區的人要逃到山上去；

各國都要臣服於他和他的子孫，直到他的國家滅亡。那時，許多國家和強大的君王必奴役他。

求你前去觀看那久已荒涼之地，看看敵人對聖所的破壞。他們在你聖所中高聲叫嚷，豎立起自己的旗幟。他們大肆毀壞，好像人掄起斧頭砍伐樹林。他們用斧頭、錘子把雕刻的牆板都搗毀了。他們縱火焚燒你的聖所，把它夷為平地，褻瀆了你的居所。
