So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him,“ May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”

So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel,“ May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”

The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble.The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him.

From six disasters he will rescue you; even in the seventh, he will keep you from evil.

The Lord says,“ I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

Then Nebuchadnezzar said,“ Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king’s command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah— Joab and Abishai— are too strong for me to control. So may the Lord repay these evil men for their evil deeds.”

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.

When he got there, he called out in anguish,“ Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?”

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.

If I have done something worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die. But if I am innocent, no one has a right to turn me over to these men to kill me. I appeal to Caesar!”

I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments. But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?”

After two years went by in this way, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And because Felix wanted to gain favor with the Jewish people, he left Paul in prison.

“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!”And all the people yelled back,“ We will take responsibility for his death— we and our children!”So Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

King Zedekiah agreed.“ All right,” he said.“ Do as you like. I can’t stop you.”

So the girl hurried back to the king and told him,“ I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!”Then the king deeply regretted what he had said; but because of the vows he had made in front of his guests, he couldn’t refuse her.So he immediately sent an executioner to the prison to cut off John’s head and bring it to him. The soldier beheaded John in the prison,brought his head on a tray, and gave it to the girl, who took it to her mother.

Then Festus, wanting to please the Jews, asked him,“ Are you willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there?”

For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you.

At her mother’s urging, the girl said,“ I want the head of John the Baptist on a tray!”Then the king regretted what he had said; but because of the vow he had made in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders.So John was beheaded in the prison,

“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

We are all in agreement— we administrators, officials, high officers, advisers, and governors— that the king should make a law that will be strictly enforced. Give orders that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human— except to you, Your Majesty— will be thrown into the den of lions.

Then Pilate tried to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted,“ If you release this man, you are no‘ friend of Caesar.’ Anyone who declares himself a king is a rebel against Caesar.”When they said this, Pilate brought Jesus out to them again. Then Pilate sat down on the judgment seat on the platform that is called the Stone Pavement( in Hebrew, Gabbatha).It was now about noon on the day of preparation for the Passover. And Pilate said to the people,“ Look, here is your king!”“ Away with him,” they yelled.“ Away with him! Crucify him!”“ What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked.“ We have no king but Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus away.

As for me, I am in your hands— do with me as you think best.

For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me,and he said,‘ Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’
