這話還在王的口中，就有聲音從天上降下，說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，這是對你的宣告：你的國權從你那裡被移除了！

當他們貪得無厭，食物還在他們口中的時候，神的怒氣就向他們上騰，他殺死了他們當中肥壯的，使以色列的青年人倒下。

那時，王所有的智慧人都來了，卻不能讀出這文字，也不能把它的釋義顯明給王。

於是，有一隻手從神那裡被派來，寫下了這文字。「所寫下的文字是：彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，賠珥新。這句話的釋義是這樣的：『彌尼』就是神已經數算了你國的年日，使它終結了；『提客勒』就是在天平上你已經被稱量了，發現了虧缺；『賠珥新』就是你的國已經被分割，賜給了米底亞和波斯。」

我又看見死去的人，無論尊貴卑微，都站在那寶座前。書卷都打開了；另有一個書卷也打開了，這就是生命冊。死去的人都憑著書卷中所記的，照著他們的行為受審判。於是，海洋交出了其中的死人，死亡和陰間也交出了其中的死人；每個人都照著自己的行為受審判。然後，死亡和陰間被丟進火湖裡，這火湖就是第二次的死亡。凡是名字沒有被記在生命冊上的人，都被丟進了火湖裡。

現在智慧人和占卜者都被帶到我面前，為要他們讀出這文字，並把它的釋義顯明給我，但他們卻不能講明這句話的釋義；

屢次受責，仍然硬著頸項的人，頃刻之間就會被摧毀，無法挽回。

抹去了在敵對我們的那些規條中反對我們的債務記錄，並且把它從中除掉，釘在十字架上。

這話立刻就應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上；他從人間被趕出，像牛那樣吃牧草，身體被天上的露水濕透，直到他的頭髮長得像鷹的羽毛，指甲長得像鳥的爪子。

因為你們自己明確地知道，主的日子來臨，就像夜裡的賊來臨那樣。當人們正說「和平」、「安全」的時候，毀滅那時就突然臨到他們，就像孕婦的臨產陣痛那樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你擁有了很多好東西，足以享用多年，你就休息、吃喝、慶祝吧。』「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』
