he said,“ Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

He said,“ Isn’t this the great Babylon I have built as a place for my royal palace? I used my mighty power to build it. It shows how glorious my majesty is.”

and the king answered and said,“ Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”

the king exclaimed,“ Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built to be a royal residence by my vast power and for my majestic glory?”

The king began speaking and was saying,‘ Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?’

The king spoke, saying,“ Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”

The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling- place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

the king exclaimed,“ Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built by my vast power to be a royal residence and to display my majestic glory?”

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

The king uttered these words:“ Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for a royal residence by my own mighty strength and for my majestic honor?”

The king spoke and said,“ Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”

Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.

The great city of Babylon split into three sections, and the cities of many nations fell into heaps of rubble. So God remembered all of Babylon’s sins, and he made her drink the cup that was filled with the wine of his fierce wrath.

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

A mysterious name was written on her forehead:“ Babylon the Great, Mother of All Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World.”

They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others.

They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out,“ How terrible, how terrible for you, O Babylon, you great city! In a single moment God’s judgment came on you.”

People who boast of their wealth don’t understand; they will die, just like animals.

And I’ll sit back and say to myself,“ My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.Your awe inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness.Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you.They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power.They will tell about your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of your reign.

Must we be strung up on their hooks and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate?Then they will worship their nets and burn incense in front of them.“ These nets are the gods who have made us rich!” they will claim.

The celebration lasted 180 days— a tremendous display of the opulent wealth of his empire and the pomp and splendor of his majesty.

He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Give them this message from the Sovereign Lord:“ I am your enemy, O Pharaoh, king of Egypt— you great monster, lurking in the streams of the Nile. For you have said,‘ The Nile River is mine; I made it for myself.’

By your messengers you have defied the Lord. You have said,‘ With my many chariots I have conquered the highest mountains— yes, the remotest peaks of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars and its finest cypress trees. I have reached its farthest heights and explored its deepest forests.I have dug wells in many foreign lands and refreshed myself with their water. With the sole of my foot, I stopped up all the rivers of Egypt!’

As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.They began saying to each other,“ Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.”( In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)Then they said,“ Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.“ Look!” he said.“ The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.”In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.

He will say,‘ Each of my princes will soon be a king.We destroyed Calno just as we did Carchemish. Hamath fell before us as Arpad did. And we destroyed Samaria just as we did Damascus.Yes, we have finished off many a kingdom whose gods were greater than those in Jerusalem and Samaria.So we will defeat Jerusalem and her gods, just as we destroyed Samaria with hers.’”After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him— for he is proud and arrogant.He boasts,“ By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull.I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.”But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?

“ Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign Lord:“ In your great pride you claim,‘ I am a god! I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.’ But you are only a man and not a god, though you boast that you are a god.You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel and think no secret is hidden from you.With your wisdom and understanding you have amassed great wealth— gold and silver for your treasuries.Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich, and your riches have made you very proud.

Your Majesty, the Most High God gave sovereignty, majesty, glory, and honor to your predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar.He made him so great that people of all races and nations and languages trembled before him in fear. He killed those he wanted to kill and spared those he wanted to spare. He honored those he wanted to honor and disgraced those he wanted to disgrace.But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance, he was brought down from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.

Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.

Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.“ O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!

“ This must be a magnificent Temple because our God is greater than all other gods.But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?

Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a huge millstone. He threw it into the ocean and shouted,“ Just like this, the great city Babylon will be thrown down with violence and will never be found again.

“ Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest. They open their mouths as wide as the grave, and like death, they are never satisfied. In their greed they have gathered up many nations and swallowed many peoples.

The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there.And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.
