亞倫從他們手中接過來，用雕刻的工具雕刻，鑄造了一個牛像；他們就說：“以色列啊，這就是你們的神，就是把你從埃及地領出來的那位。”亞倫看見了，就在牛像面前築了一座祭壇，並且宣告，說：“明日是耶和華的節日。”次日清早，人民起來，就獻上了燔祭，也帶來了平安祭；然後他們坐下吃喝，起來玩樂。

大利烏按自己的心意，立了一百二十個總督，治理全國；（本節在《馬索拉文本》為6:2）他又在這些總督之上，設立三位監察司（但以理是其中之一），監管總督的工作，免得王受虧損。因為但以理裡面有美好的靈性，所以各方面都比其他的監察司和總督優勝；王有意立他治理全國。於是這些監察司和總督在但以理治國的事上，尋找把柄控告他，只是不能找到任何的把柄和過失，因為他忠心可靠，他們找不到他的任何錯誤和過失。

非利士人的領袖聚集起來，要給他們的神大袞獻大祭，並且歡樂慶祝；他們說：“我們的神把我們的仇敵參孫交在我們手中了。”

如果掌權者聽信謊言，他所有的臣僕必都是壞人。

耶羅波安又定了八月十五日為節期，像在猶大的節期一樣，他自己在祭壇上獻祭，他在伯特利也是這樣向他所鑄造的牛犢獻祭；他又在伯特利為他所建造的邱壇設立祭司。

那些女子叫以色列人來，一同給她們的神獻祭，以色列人也吃了她們的祭物，跪拜她們的神。

地上的眾王都跟她行過淫，住在地上的人也都喝她淫亂的酒醉了。”
