因此，王大發烈怒，下令殺絕巴比倫所有的智慧人。

忽然有人來報告說：“你們押在監裡的那些人，正站在殿裡教導眾民呢！”於是守衛長和差役去帶使徒來，不過沒有用暴力，因為怕眾民用石頭打他們。既然帶來了，就叫他們站在公議會前。大祭司問他們：

但你們要小心！因為人要把你們交給公議會，你們要在會堂裡被鞭打，又要為我的緣故站在總督和君王面前，向他們作見證。

他們卻大怒，彼此商議怎樣對付耶穌。

過了幾天，腓力斯和他的猶太妻子土西拉一同來到，他又傳見保羅，聽他談論在耶穌基督裡的信仰。

於是掃羅向約拿單發怒，對他說：“你這邪僻悖逆婦人所生的，我豈不知道你喜悅耶西的兒子，自取羞辱，也羞辱生你的母親嗎？因為只要耶西的兒子還活在這世上，你和你的國就不能穩固。現在，你要派人去把他抓到我這裡來，因為他是該死的。”約拿單回答他父親掃羅說：“為甚麼要把他處死呢？他作了甚麼事呢？”掃羅向著約拿單把槍擲過去，要刺殺他。約拿單就知道，他父親已經決意要殺死大衛。

只是沒有看中該隱和他的禮物。該隱就非常忿怒，垂頭喪氣。

但在這一切以先，人必為我的名，下手拘捕、迫害你們，把你們交給會堂，下在監裡，甚至押到君王和總督面前，

容易發怒的人，引起紛爭；脾氣暴烈的人，多有過犯。

哈曼見末底改不向他屈身下拜，就非常忿怒。他以為只下手對付末底改一人還是小事，因為有人把末底改的本族告訴了哈曼；所以哈曼設法要把亞哈隨魯王全國所有的猶大人，與末底改一起消滅。

石頭重，沙土也重，愚妄人的怒氣比這兩樣更重。

你們為我的緣故，也要被帶到統治者和君王面前，向他們和外族人作見證。

寧願遇見失掉幼子的母熊，也不願遇見正在行愚妄事的愚昧人。
